2000 Ford Windstar

Summary:

Avoid at all costs

Faults:

Check engine light is always on.

Windshield wiper fluid does not come out of the front windshield.

Paint peeled of multiple areas.

Was driving on the interstate one morning at 70 mph, when the front started vibrating violently and all of a sudden the entire right front wheel goes flying off. Damaged the fender and rotor. I had to apply the emergency brake to stop. I was lucky it was not the left tire or was in a different lane. I could have had a very bad wreck. Never did find the wheel.

General Comments:

I don't like it. I would never have another one, nor would I recommend anyone purchase one.

I'll agree that this model van wasn't Ford's finest hour, but a wheel doesn't just go "flying off"; there must have been a reason for something like that to happen.

Hohum. Reviewer does not state mileage, probably because it was north of 200K.

Another review of a worn out vehicle that was likely poorly maintained long before the reviewer got it.

Sure, the suspension is shot.

2000 Ford Windstar SEL 3.8 V6

Summary:

Dreadful pile of poorly made junk

Faults:

Heater simply quit.

Power steering whined.

General Comments:

The car was a lemon. The heater went out in the dead of winter. It got 14 MPG. We nicknamed it the Pornstar because everything that wasn't loose or numb moaned and groaned.

One of the happiest days of my life was when the thing got repossessed. I had pneumonia and it went away at 2:00 AM. I was STILL happy to see it go.

Those sound like normal "wear and tear" items. Meh, I'd say the truck performed really well given the high mileage.

"We nicknamed it the Pornstar because everything that wasn't loose or numb moaned and groaned."

What a beautiful, articulate piece of prose!! Had me in absolute stitches :)

Sorry to hear about your experience with the car, hope you managed to replace it with something a lot better.

2000 Ford Windstar LX 3.8

Summary:

Nice car, bad paint

Faults:

The paint is peeling on the hood around the roof; makes me mad, looks like poor paint quality.

General Comments:

Generally a good car.

2000 Ford Windstar

Summary:

Too many complaints on it

Faults:

Just recently purchased this vehicle from Florida, and already have problems with 28000 miles. Had fuel pump replaced before buying it, and now the fuel pump won't kick on, so I have a car that won't start. Have checked all fuses on it, and they are all OK. Guess it's off to the Ford dealer.

2000 Ford Windstar LX

Summary:

Worst van I've ever owned, but you all know that

Faults:

Brake lights would not turn off... battery kept dying.

Broke down on us 1 week after purchase while on vacation. Ford dealer in North Carolina gave it back to us after having it for 7 days. It made it home, but was not repaired correctly. Had to repair back in Pittsburgh.

The heater broke.

The rear axle cracked in half just after getting off 79 going 65 with a van full of kids. The tow truck driver could not believe my luck. He said we all could have been killed.

The check engine light is always on. Every inspection is an ordeal getting them to stay off. Of course I don't go to Ford. My mechanic is honest.

The fuel system went.

The speedometer and cruise control broke.

And now the OD light keeps coming on, as it drains tranny fluid if I take it on the highway.

General Comments:

Ford should be ashamed.

2000 Ford Windstar LX

Summary:

Don't buy

Faults:

The car was running just fine. I had it serviced two weeks ago. I was on the freeway. It started to lose power. I pulled over. It was overheating. I had to have it towed. The shop says to throw it away. The engine is gone.

It was 2000 Windstar with about 120,000 miles. I had it 1 1/2 years.

General Comments:

Besides that, it had the same problems as I read other people had; being possessed with the lights going crazy etc.

I had a 2003 Windstar that suffered from electrical problems as well (interior lights going crazy? Yeah, that was me). My Windstar only made about 95,000 miles though, at which point the transmission failed. It wasn't worth replacing the trans, as the car had already cost me nearly half what I originally paid for it to keep it running.

Really, when the engine fails throw the car away? I'd get a used engine installed.

"Really, when the engine fails throw the car away? I'd get a used engine installed."

A Ford Windstar isn't worth replacing an engine in.
