2001 Ford Windstar Limited 3.8

Summary:

One of my favorite vehicles I've owned... Thank You Ford

Faults:

Only thing gone wrong... A/C compressor at 105,000 miles. She does everything right...

General Comments:

I bought her from the original owner who only used it here in South Florida in the winter when they were down from Cleveland.

It had 92,000 original miles and was garaged her whole life; she looks new.

Black/tan exterior two tone with tan leather interior.

She has all the bells and whistles that Ford offered in 01.

Everything works: heated, memory seats, entertainment package (VCR), power sliding rear doors, power everything.

92,000 miles when I bought her, she needed tires and rear shocks.

At 105,000 the A/C compressor died.

I had the A/C repaired, engine serviced, tranny flushed at a Ford garage in West Palm Beach.

Then we packed her and went on a month long road trip up the east coast from Palm Beach Fla, all the way into Maine, Finger Lakes in upstate NY, where she was serviced again at a Ford garage.

Then back down the coast through the mountains of Carolinas and Georgia, back through central Fla, then back to Palm Beach Fla.

6000 miles in one month and the Ole Windstar, she was a charm.

There is a lot of negative on this website about this incredible van that Ford produced and I almost didn't buy her because of what I had read.

But I've had so many very, very reliable Ford products that I decided to gamble on this one and she has never in 2 years, let me down.

I hope that this review will give someone else confidence in this beautiful Ford product.

Good luck and happy motoring...

Transmission flush = Investment in the future :)

Uh, no it is NOT.

www.eagletransmission.com/should-i-get-a-transmission-flush

Dozens of other sites say essentially the same thing: not necessary, and high risk of transmission damage. The only thing "flushed" is money from your wallet! :(

Flushing can also force particles loose. Drop the pan instead.

Most Ford rear drive automatics (such as the AOD-E and the 4R70W) have torque converter drain plugs, and it's always a good thing to drain them and drop the pan and filter every 40-50 thousand miles to prevent shuddering. No need to use the flushing method.

2001 Ford Windstar SEL V6

Summary:

Absolutely AWFUL

Faults:

Simply: Just about everything has gone wrong with this vehicle.

The following is just a brief summary of what has gone wrong with this vehicle:

- Transmission failed at 96K.

- Engine intake manifold bolts had to be replaced (manufacturer defect).

- Rear axle cracked (major manufacturer defect - Search YouTube for details).

- Front subframe rusted and cracked (major manufacturer defect - Search YouTube). Ford bought these subframes from China and they were manufactured with cheap steel.

Worst vehicle I have ever purchased!

Ford has lost me as a customer!

It's a 17 year old Ford...

I'm shocked!!!

I have a 2001 Windstar Limited with 113,000 miles.

Power everything, heated seats, VCR, power sliding doors, she has it all!!!

This car has been absolutely great.

Last summer I drove her 6000 miles in 4 weeks up and down the east coast. Before I left I did have to replace the original A/C compressor, serviced her at a Ford garage, tranny flush, and off we went on the mission.

Absolutely comfortable. Carried all our gear. Great gas mileage. Plenty of room.

I may drive her across the country next summer and do the California Coast.

I highly recommend the very comfortable, reliable, Ford Windstar...

Ford should've never ditched this car. Shame!!

2001 Ford Windstar LX 3.8

Summary:

Satisfied

Faults:

When hot outside, and going over bumps, the door lock sensors go on and off. Also the ABS and brake idiot lights do the same at high outdoor temps outside.

Tire sensor light stays on constantly.

Rear windows don't work, but not a problem.

General Comments:

To have 236k miles and minimal problems, I feel lucky. Keep up with maintaining your vehicle!
