Faults:

Clutch went out at 146,000miles due to a spring breaking loose.

Car sat for 2 years since that happened, and the dry start was rather destructive as it now uses a quart of oil about every 175miles.

Interior very cheaply made, the switch buttons for the lights have broken off, window crank on driver side knob broke off.

Muffler fell off at 147,000 miles- most likely due to rust as a result of sitting 2 years.

General Comments:

All-in-all a great car, though it suffered major damage from sitting untouched for 2 years it has taken remarkably little to get it back on the road.

It is peppier than would be expected for a car with only 55hp, though it does struggle in the mountains. This is not a performance vehicle by any stretch. It is very cheap, nimble, easy to park and has wonderful gas mileage.

I purchased the car because of my long daily commute to help keep the miles off my better cars and save in gas. I'm averaging about 45mpg in the mountains with a mix of city and highway. Flat-landers with mostly highway use can expect over 50mpg.

Good little car, I highly recommend it to anyone needing cheap reliable transportation.

Faults:

Three batteries.

1 alternator.

1 replaced radiator.

A/C charged twice.

General Comments:

I bought this car in 1989 at a Chevrolet dealership, my previous car was a 1985 Chevy Sprint, it was wrecked and totaled. I had to replace the car so I went back to the same dealership and saw these little cars everywhere. Even though there were still a few Sprints on the lot I instantly fell in love with the little Geo. After driving it for only 15 minutes we went back and I bought the little car, I could have bought 2 of these for what a new economy car cost nowadays.

I've had this car since it was new and will keep it until it can't be repaired anymore. This car has never left me stranded, not once. I think however that the engine needs to be rebuilt now, I was told by my local mechanic that the engine was getting low on compression. It still goes great but its getting sluggish with its age.

The car has no rust or body damage, it looks almost the same as it did when I bought it.

Tires are cheap.

This small car didn't do well in the mountains though, try to avoid that situation if you can.

Faults:

The passenger door frequently gets jammed.

The exhaust system sometimes backs-up.

The front bumper is unstable.

The interior switches broke easily.

General Comments:

The little car is worth the money.

It gets me everywhere I need to go.

Sporting it out is very cheap and inexpensive.

The Geo is one of the first cars I have never needed to professionally service.

Everything can be done at home.

The interior housing seems very unstable and a lot of rattling noises. My stereo system took care of that though.

The steering is very difficult over time.

Faults:

Had the head rebuilt about 50,000 miles ago.

General Comments:

Anyone can work on these cars, there is nothing to them, I mean everything is right there on top. I guess that's one reason I keep the thing around, I can do all servicing myself.

I bought this car new in 1990 when I went to the Chevy dealer to get a Cavalier Z24, but I was a new buyer, only 18 and had no credit, and I ended up with this new creature called Geo and I have never regretted it.

Faults:

Driver's side windshield wiper wore down, so now it doesn't work.

Driver's side window does not roll all the way up.

Starter has given out, takes about 10 cranks to get it to start.

Parts for this car are obscenely expensive, and difficult to get.

General Comments:

Lets look at this in perspective, I bought this car for 1100$, and I'd say it was worth about 1100$.. I put hardly anything into repairs, and it was nice to laugh at all the morons in SUV's while I got 35 mpg when gas was $2 a gallon.

Faults:

This car goes through front brakes like crazy.

General Comments:

When I got this car I never expected it to last a month from the way it sounded but it just putts and gags its way on down the road. Very dependable. Some of the interior fittings are pretty cheap and are starting to break but besides that this is an OK little car.
