1992 Geo Metro LSi Convertible 1.3 Litre TBFI

Summary:

Cheap, reliable, convertible for around town!

Faults:

Leaking driver's side rear brake cylinder. Cheap fix and nothing else has broken since.

Changed all fluids, hoses, belts and tires when I took ownership.

New convertible top... old one had a hazy rear window.

General Comments:

I bought this car used and have loved it. I knew it was just a small 3-banger, but I didn't care. It ran well, was cheap ($2100), was a convertible, and was in very nice shape cosmetically.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a NEW Geo Metro sedan, but not the ugly (my opinion) coupe. Too bad Geo/Chevy is no longer producing a Metro Convertible.

For all you people out there with a hazy back convertible window. First wash that window to get the dust and droppings out. Then to bring it back nice use BRASSO, a silver polish, and a diaper cloth (clean) or other soft material. Do little section at a time using small round swirling motions. Keep the cloth wet. Yes, it will take some muscle, it is not a wipe on, wipe off approach. But it does work. I found out this trick many moons ago when I had my first CJ6 Jeep. Lots of vinyl to keep transparent. Vanilla Latte, my 1991 Chevrolet Sprint, enjoys this upkeep. Have fun and think good thoughts.

I have a 1991 Geo Metro LSi Convertible, recently obtained, and so far I like it very much, especially with gas mileage as it is.

I have a horn and radiator fan which do not work, though both parts are fine when hot-wired. I cannot find info on whether they share a relay or fuse in common? I would like to fix the problem. Any suggestions?

1992 Geo Metro LSI Convertible 1.0

Summary:

Economical and predictably reliable

Faults:

Engine got flooded in 9 inches of water during a rainstorm 2 months after vehicle was bought in 1992 in Norfolk, Va. Winter of 1996 the engine was frozen in a solid block of ice during a snow storm in Denmark. Can't wash the engine with water or it will die on you.

General Comments:

Geo Metros & water don't mix at all!

Great car to own when driving in countries where gas goes for $4 - $8 a gallon!

Convertible rubber top lasts 4 years max.

Front brakes lasted 70,000 miles, rear brakes & clutch lasted 125,000 miles.

Gearbox replaced at 65,000 miles.

Car is great for city driving, highway driving, but takes forever on hilly terrain.

Car held up well on a 13,800 mile trip from Jacksonville, Florida to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Only had to replace a set of tires for that trip!

1992 Geo Metro LSi 3 Cylinder

Summary:

This car is great if you treat it right!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this little cool car. It is my first car and I like it. Windows may come off the tracks, if you BEAT THE *&$@ out of them. But if you treat them normal, they will be fine. I baby my Metro. Other than that the engine is REALLY strong and reliable. Great overall car!!

General Comments:

The stock stereo is not to be liked by teens. I was 16 when I got it and I replaced every speaker in this hatchback! I also added 2 Pioneer 6-by-9's, 2 Optimus 8's, and 2 Pioneer 12" subwoofers. Now this car is perfect for me. Although 12 inch hubcaps are IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND! So if customizing cars is your thing, look somewhere else.

1992 Geo Metro LSi Convertible 1.0 3 cyl

Summary:

Lots of fun to drive

Faults:

Passenger side seat belt locked up and had to be replaced. Other than that, just a new set of tires and an oil change.

General Comments:

This car is a real kick in the pants to drive! Lots of fun for a little dough. Paid $2600 for it and was offered $4500 a week later, but I'll never sell!
