1993 Geo Metro 3 cylinder.

Summary:

Great gas mileage

Faults:

I purchased the car with poor exhaust system.

General Comments:

I bought this little car for gas mileage to go to work and back, and have fallen in love with it. I get 52 MPG out of it in all around driving. I removed the belt for the air conditioner (don't need it here anyway), and put a free flowing exhaust system on it.

Previous to this, I drove a Ford SUV, and when I took a new job quite a distance from home, I wanted to get more that 16 MPG. I bought the GEO for $1000, and figure in gas savings alone, I will be money ahead in under 5 months. Funny thing is, I love driving it, so now my SUV sits in the driveway even on weekends! I'm making more money than I ever have, and I'm not pouring it into my car in gas, and the best part, everyone in town gives me sympathy because they figure I must be going broke because I drive this crappy little car instead of my SUV!! Haha, the jokes on them. I've never put more in the bank before!

1993 Geo Metro 1.0L 3-cylinder

Summary:

If I had known this would be the perfect car, I'd have bought two of them new!

Faults:

The MAP Sensor went out at 175,000 miles.

I replaced the water pump and gasket at around 200,000 miles when the gasket developed a leak.

I had some problems with inside and outside door handles.

General Comments:

Without a doubt, this has been the most reliable, longest-lasting, fuel-efficient, enjoyable car I have ever owned. It is also my first imported car, after owning 6 or 7 American-made. The engine has never used oil (a small feat for 215,000 miles) and it drives and handles just like the day I bought it. I can always expect to get 53 or 54 miles per gallon on trips. I have changed the oil and filter every 2,000 miles and replaced the timing belt several times (just preventative maintenance). I am sad that this 3-cylinder car is no longer available in this age of high-priced fuel.

It really is a great little car. I really wish I could find one of the 3 cylinder versions. The only ones around here are the hatchback 4 cylinders. Did they ever make a 3 cylinder sedan?

You give this car a "10/10" rating in everything?

What did you drive before, a moped?

1993 Geo Metro 1.0

Summary:

Best $50 I ever spent!

Faults:

New clutch, windshield, and tune up parts.

General Comments:

I bought it for $50 from a friend. He had it since the car had 30k on it from the original owner who supposedly rolled the car over. There was heavy damage to the roof and the Bondo was coming off in chunks, but the engine and transmission were still in excellent shape. It burns about a liter of oil every 600 miles, but that is not bad for a car as old and abused as it is. The previous owner had not changed the brake pads, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, cap, or coil in over 70k miles. I replaced the clutch and tuned up the car for less than $250. A new windshield cost $140 installed.

It is a beater, but so fun. I yanked the AC out of it to cut weight and drag on the engine and it feels a lot zippier now.

Gets about 40 mpg. So nice to pull into a gas station and pay less than $15 to fill up.
