Faults:

In the three years I have owned it, I have replaced the exhaust manifold and the muffler, and whatever you call the exhaust pipe that runs between those two devices. The work cost approximately $500 to have done.

The water pump was replaced and the timing belt, as well as all other belts were replaced as a matter of maintenance at 69,000 miles.

This car has never broken down on me, ever! The cars body is in great shape, however also as a matter of maintenance, rust has been professionally removed and repaired from the body of my Geo to keep it on the road.

This car is a mode of transportation. It is a bit slow, it lacks bells and whistles. I need to turn off the A/C to climb a hill, but on the plus side, the A/C works very well, and this car is very capable of climbing a hill!

General Comments:

I run this car regularly between my homes in Toronto ON and New York City NY. It never gives me any trouble, and is extremely good on gas. This is the automatic 1.3L engine, and the manual transmission Geo's get far superior mileage than the automatic, but nonetheless, I am thrilled with how inexpensive this car is to run and maintain.

The seats aren't comfortable on these long journeys, but I don't mind really. I highly recommend the Geo Metro, and if you can find one, take good care of it, and it will return the favor by keeping you on the road trouble free for years to come.

Faults:

1995 Geo 1L, 3cyl. Metro.

Hey, I just bought a 1995 Geo 1L, 3 cylinder Metro for $100 “Running”.

The only issue it has right now is my charging circuit. The alternator is new, and I also had it bench-tested. Belt is new, good and tight. Battery is new and bench-tested, but the alternator is not putting out, and I’m running only off the battery. We had it putting out the 14 volts for one day, but at the end of that day, the battery light came back on... I love this little car and want to fix this issue.

A friend of mine lost his job, and is using it to take the kids to & from school every day. The other day he said “I don’t think the gas gauge is working properly – it’s only gone down by 2 marks in a week”. When I told him what gas mileage it gets, he just turned red in the face.

Now back to the car. I want to fix the alternator issue. We did find that the 2-wire plug going to the alternator does have 12 volts at the clips; maybe it’s not getting a good connection when plugged in. We will try using jumpers tomorrow - will report back on this.

General Comments:

I love this car, and want to get it running right.

With gas prices that will rise in the future, this will be a great car.

This is the kind of car that we need - a shade tree mechanic's dream.
