1991 Geo Storm GSi 1.6 DOHC

Summary:

An overhauled metro with a thirst for destruction

Faults:

New exhaust at 125,000 miles.

New constant velocity joints at 135,000 miles.

New struts at 135,000 miles.

New distributor at 150,000 miles.

Used rear wheel bearing at 150,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car makes twenty plus pizza deliveries a night. Five days a week.

This car takes off like a bullet.

It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Make sure you have these three things before you drive it: some ear plugs to keep the noise down, a welder to keep it together, and wish to take off faster than any other car on the road.

1991 Geo Storm 2+2 Coupe 1.4L

Summary:

A very reliable car indeed!

Faults:

Drivers side window internal mechanism broke at 100,000. real pain to find replacement part...

Replaced timing belt at 109,000.

Replaced alternator belt at 105,000.

Replaced front struts at 113,000.

General Comments:

Very reliable little car indeed!

I see them all over the place so it must be a good engine, just do basic maintenance (oil change, flush radiator/engine/transmission, spark plug) and it will give GREAT gas mileage.

1991 Geo Storm 2+2 coupe 1.6 SOHC

Summary:

A fun mini Corvette with a mini price tag

Faults:

Head gasket was blown when I bought it for $200.

Driver seat was worn.

Cracked exhaust manifold.

CV axles.

Muffler had a fist size hole in it.

Heater core.

Rear brakes and calipers.

Leaking power steering.

General Comments:

This is a quick little car. It handles great in all weather.

This car is well worth the money I have put into it. Everything to fix it is cheap.

Most of the work is do it yourself.

I love small cars so it is perfect for me.

I plan on putting about $2500.00 more into it. With that kind of money in it I will have it forever.

Knowing what I know about this car the 1.6 DOHC & 1.8 DOHC has got to be pretty bad little cars.

I wish Chevy or Isuzu would bring back the Storm.

I wonder often how they got so much power in such a little engine.

Now don't get me wrong it's not a Corvette or Trans Am. It's more like a mini one.

I've ran Miatas, Eclipses, and Preludes for example, and they just don't compare.

1991 Geo Storm 3 door hatchback 1.6 liter

Summary:

Zippy little silver sidewinder!

Faults:

After a hard rain, it has difficulty starting. Although I try to keep it covered, that is a major pain.

Considerable difficulty starting in extreme cold. Fuel injector got clogged, so the addition of liquid Heat helped.

Since I once bottomed out (hugs the ground a little close), have had to replace muffler once or twice.

Some rust on right side panel, probably caused by road salt.'

To clear windshield fog, need to use AC, and this can take a long time in bad conditions. (A remote starter could help here.)

Had to replace brake pads once.

General Comments:

I was sold the day I drove this car. I just love the way it hugs you. I guess the Japanese call it "kensei".

It has been a really great car, although with some pretty pesky problems. I would really like to know how to make it more "waterproof". We did replace the points, but it still hates heavy rains. Reader input is much appreciated here!

Otherwise, I think I got a good year (1991) as recommended by a major consumer magazine. And would recommend it, as long as you have some patience for the shortcomings!

1991 Geo Storm Base 1.6L SOHC

Summary:

Great gas mileage, speedy little thing!

Faults:

I have experienced problems with both CV Joints/drive axles. This problem is very common with the Storm. Not a big deal really.

I have a slight power steering fluid leak. Not a big deal either.

It tends to run hot every once-in-a-while. It makes me wonder if there is a slight Radiator leak or maybe a loose hose somewhere.

General Comments:

This is a great car! It gets superb gas mileage, and it flies! Would definitely own another one. It has been described to me as handling like a Corvette.

This car is seriously underrated by many people. The whole "Geo" badge is supposedly a sign that it's slow. Not true! The lady I bought mine off of was selling it because she was afraid she was going to get a ticket because it was too fast for her.

My storm had the same problem with over heating too. My radiator wasn't clogged or leaking, it just wouldn't flow right. I replaced the top and bottom radiator hoses, removed the thermostat, and got a radiator at a junkyard for 35$. I also put in some stuff that stops over heating from auto zone that really works. That stopped the problem and it's ran cool ever since.
