1993 Geo Tracker

Summary:

Legally, the most fun in a car!

Faults:

My clutch cable broke in 1999, it cost $50 to fix and was simple enough that my dad, who is NOT a mechanic, fixed in 45 minutes.

General Comments:

This car is so much fun, I would NEVER get rid of it...

It is never a problem with the snow, I just put it in 4 wheel drive and go. Since it's light weight it doesn't bog down like big huge trucks.

I've been caught with the top down in the rain, but since the seats are water proof, No Problem!

Geos and Suzukis are the best cars ever made! What do you mean by "Legally"? I do like that they are easy to fix. I do most of the work on my X-90. Basically a Tracker/Sidekick. I will never buy anything, but Suzuki!

1993 Geo Tracker 4x4 1.6 liter

Summary:

One of the best things you could spend money on

Faults:

I can't complain, it has been great.

The only things I have replaced were the starter and the alternator.

General Comments:

My Tracker has been the most fun car I have owned. It is a go anywhere, do anything 4x4. I have used it to tow the biggest pop-up camper you can buy, and had it in the deepest mud I could find. Only one time has it been stuck, and then only a large 4 wheel tractor could pull me out.

I could go on forever about it, so the only thing to say is if you don't have one, you don't know what you are missing.

1993 Geo Tracker

Summary:

Getting high mileage from my Tracker was my single biggest need and I got it

Faults:

The only problem we have ever had with our Tracker was the bolts holding the compressor in place. They wallowed out from wear and now we can't keep the compressor belt on. We put a single power steering belt on and bypassed the compressor, but I'd still like my air conditioning back.

General Comments:

I did not realize this car had no cup holders when I bought it. It just didn't occur to me to check. That has been a minor annoyance over the years. We bought the cheap type that hangs on the door, but every time you rolled the window down, you had to hang onto your drink.

Have someone drill the holes that are wallowed out and either re-tap them for a larger bolt or insert hardened steel sleeves and bolt it back in. I had the same problem and it solved it with little time and expense.

One idea on the cupholder issue. I found an aftermarket console that can be bolted in between the front seats (it nests over the emergency brake handle. It provides an armrest, storage for CD's etc and best of all it has two cupholders! I got mine about 5 years ago, but I have seen them offered on the same websites that sell replacement tops.

1993 Geo Tracker Base 1.6 4-cylinder

Summary:

The most reliability for your money

Faults:

My steering belt broke along with my air conditioning belt (same belt?)

Air conditioning went out at that time also. (72,000)

Replaced all brakes at 80,000.

Check engine light on at 80,000 but no difference in drive quality.

General Comments:

Magenta seats?

3-speed auto lacks power, makes up in torque.

I also have a geo tracker 93 it just hit the 80,000 mile mark. What did you do when the check engine light went on. Was it a dumb service call? how do you turn it off.

That engine check light at 80,000 was a service programed into the system. To reset, remove front left speaker grill, then speaker. To the right of the hole you will see a plastic post with a slide switch attached to it. Push the slide switch in the opposite direction. Programed to light at 50,000,80,000 and 100,000 miles. Now when you hit 100,000 miles, you will have to do this again, by pushing slide switch in the opposite position.
