2008 GMC Acadia

Summary:

I wish I had never purchased this vehicle!!

Faults:

Engine had to be replaced at 60,000 miles.

The sunroof leaks.

The back driver's side window won't roll up from the back seat.

The automatic lift gate on the back hatch quit working.

General Comments:

I have been very disappointed in this car! The engine had to be replaced at 60,000 miles! We have always changed the oil and taken good care of the vehicle. No warning signals even came on when the engine blew! We were 3 months out of warranty!

The sunroof leaks water terribly! We called the dealer about the sunroof while it was still under warranty and they told us it wasn't covered!

We spent a lot of money on this car, and I was excited to have a car that I felt would not need repaired as much as a used car with more miles on it. Boy was I wrong! I like the looks of the car and the seating capacity; I just can't believe that I'm still paying payments on a car that I have had to spend thousands of dollars to repair!!!

2008 GMC Acadia SLT-2 3.6L V6

Summary:

An easy buy that will fit a large family's needs

Faults:

Nothing so far. The transmission was replaced by the dealer just before we bought it. Known waveplate issue in the tranny causes failure. Nice to know the issue has been corrected with a new part (and of course the new tranny ;-) ). The engine is leak free and runs great.

General Comments:

Extremely comfortable vehicle.

Good fuel economy for a large SUV (about 24 highway) with the capability to carry 7 people.

Rear seat DVD player is great to keep kids happy (my wife is a nanny who looks after 3 kids and 1 of our own).

A back-up camera is a must with this thing as rear visibility when backing up is pretty bad.

The Nav system is nice, but needs to be updated with a current Nav disc.

Power from the 3.6 V6 is good, but not great. Engine is quiet and does its thing without any obtrusiveness. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears.

With all the bells and whistles, make sure you buy a service contract to protect yourself. If you buy a used loaded vehicle and don't buy a good service contract, you only have yourself to blame if something breaks and you can't afford to fix it.

These are great people carriers that happen to look really good. Let's face it, no one wants to actually drive a minivan around. With these (Lambda platform) SUVs, you don't have to.

2008 GMC Acadia SLT-2 3.6L VVT

Summary:

Great car, bad customer service unless the corporate office is notified

Faults:

Water pump went up.

Blend door actuator.

General Comments:

Overall I think this is a great car. Good strong motor, and the MPG isn't bad considering the size of the vehicle.

My blend door actuator was "stuck" with the first winter cold front (I live in the DMV). After a week or so it fixed itself.

Water pump went up. Took it to the dealer, and GMC has a special warranty that fixed it for free. After I drove it home that night, the next morning my engine was knocking. I took the car back, and after 3 weeks of terrible service between the 3rd party warranty company and the dealer; I finally have my car back with another motor.

When dealing with dealers and/or warranty companies, my suggestion is be prepared to call corporate. If not, notify the public.

Again, an overall great vehicle. I love the AWD, get exactly what I paid for. Just hope to stay away from dealers.

I am the original poster. Since then, I have had to get my C/V boot replaced and 3-5-R wave plate. Additionally, the sunroof and moon roof had to be resealed.

I think at this point, I have had to get all known problems fixed. Hopefully from here on out, everything will be good. I will update.

Lastly, I found a good dealer, and they make GM look a lot better.

I'm the original post/owner. Just wanted to give an update. After rectifying many issues (as you have read) the car was put in the shop again. We thought it was just a crankshaft sensor; turned out the onboard system needed to be completely re-flashed and a tune up had to be performed. Oh, and the DVD player only works when it wants.

Needless to say I no longer own this vehicle; the final straw was the tranny started to slip again!!! Only about 6 months since the replacement wave plate was installed.

Service tech unofficially said that all Acadia pre 11 or 12 are worthless. Well my family rid ourselves of our headache.
