1999 GMC Jimmy SLT 4.3 Vortec
Summary:
This truck is a tease; it is sexy and acts like your friend, but in the end it just wants money
Faults:
My 1999 GMC Jimmy was bought with around 99,000 miles. I mean I guess that is not that bad.
Looks great, sounds great, but as soon as 100,000 miles hit, I have been buying parts every month, maybe 2 if I am lucky.
Replaced brakes and rotors, which is normal, but over $150.00. Then the alternator went out.
OK, the truck is pretty old, but still not too disappointed.
Replaced the belt; that's normal too. Then the idler arm started getting weak, so there is another 25 bucks, then the idler pulley, there is about another 15 bucks, and I can hear bearings or something going wrong in the front end also, which I do not look forward to buying.
But now it is stuck in 4x4 and I am scared to drive it. At first I just thought the 4 wheel drive system was junk, but it's even worse than that; now it doesn't even work right. God only knows how much money that is going to cost me.
Also gas is horrible in the time being over 2 dollars a gallon, and I've seen that my truck is pretty hard on tires too. 2 tires replaced; pretty cheap tires were $250.00, so I am going to probably sell this because I am not a NFL star, I cannot afford to be rebuilding an SUV.
General Comments:
Very nice SUV if you have the money to keep it in the shop.
If you want a nice SUV like this with no problems, I would buy a 2009 of something else with a warranty; you would actually save money in the long run.
The motor is strong, but if you punch it, believe me sooner or later you will be regretting the fun you had.
Seats are horrible for travel. I am 18 and feel like I'm 45 when I get out after an hour drive.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
