2000 GMC Jimmy SLE 4x4 4 door

Summary:

Nice car, but hope you have plenty of money to keep it running

Faults:

The Jimmy I have breaks down all the time, to the point where I am almost afraid to get gas in it.

The vehicle has had so much replaced. It has had a history of losing power when driving, to the point that it's not drivable, shutting off while driving, and recently has taken fits where it will start, then pretty much stall and shut off when put in drive and you're ready to go. Most incidents that have happened, the vehicle will start and go again within 10-45 minutes after the incident.

General Comments:

The vehicle is a nice vehicle, other than all the problems it has had.

2000 GMC Jimmy

Summary:

Good automobile

Faults:

Ball joints, wheel bearings, door hinges,

General Comments:

This truck runs strong as long as you stay on top of things. I was reading other reviews, and people are paying outrageous amounts of money for parts and labor. i.e/ one said he paid 465.00 for a wheel bearing. I paid 55.00 dollars and it's from Detroit rack and axle. Made in the Motorcity where I'm from, so maybe that's why it's so cheap.

Anyways, if you can tell me a used car or truck that doesn't need part replacements, please let me know so I can go buy it. And it's got to be American.

2000 GMC Jimmy SLE

Summary:

The Jimmy is terrific...!

Faults:

I love my Jimmy, but over the last couple of years, the A/C has gone out, the back passenger's window switch has quit working, the driver's window gets stuck (this problem we had fixed just days after we bought the Jimmy), the back window washer has never worked, the gas gauge has been dying by inches, and just yesterday, the fuel pump went out.

From reading posts, I guess the gas gauge and fuel pump thing are very common problems. I can't seem to find a replacement gauge though. Any idea where to locate one, short of scrounging the wrecking yard? I don't want to part with it, how many SUV's do you know of that get up to 24 MPG?

General Comments:

This is a wonderful automobile. Lots of room for me, the kids and the camping gear.

2000 GMC Jimmy

Summary:

If you don't mind spending lots of money on repairs, then it's a good car

Transmission replaced, wheel bearings, 4 wheel drive problem, more transmission problems, air conditioner, heat is continually coming out.

Even when turned off, the car has weird moldy smell.

Slides easily in snow, gas hog, CD player does not work that great, rough riding, replaced shocks,

General Comments:

As my husband says, it's a money pit, get rid of it.

2000 GMC Jimmy SLS 3.5

Summary:

It's alright, but stay on top of the maintenance!

Faults:

My fuel sender unit has given up just like others have. And yes it acts up when tank is at 1/4... Am wanting to try the "sea-foam" recommended by a member.. available apparently at Napa.

My heat went out and thought heater core was shot... got the idea to unplug hoses, feeding it inside the engine bay and flushed them with garden hose pressure hot water... each time I do it, it lasts for at least 6 months to a year... a better option than replacing the core.

The first owner replaced an unbelievable amount of stuff under warranty... couldn't believe when I saw the list... was grateful it was done before I got it!

Yes, eats through rear brake pads.

Got the manual trans. because my 85' Blazer cooked the auto. trans. and cost me a lot of money.. when that happened, should have got it towed to the "yard"... what a mistake.

Daughter ripped the passenger seat handle off... chastised her for not being more gentle, but after reading reviews.. I know it really wasn't her fault.

General Comments:

The short wheelbase make the thing quite unstable... if you are sliding in the snow.. you may as well prepare for a total spin.

Fuel economy is not great... 22 mpg on the highway... during winter start and stop, it may drop down to perhaps 10.

I generally like it, not much has gone wrong so far other than heater core issue, fuel sender (I now monitor the OD). I bought this because a comparable unit with Toyota would have been twice the amount that I paid, but it would have lasted twice as long.
