Faults:

I was reading the list of things wrong with the Chevy Blazer and GMC Jimmy of this year and I have had all the same problems like clock work.

My ball joints were bad, all four were replaced at about 40K.

My gas gauge sending unit went out and the gas tank had to be dropped to replace it at about 40K.

My turn signal relay went out and the turn signals stopped working at about 40K.

The oil cooler had a leak and was fixed at about 40K.

(I saved up all of the above and had them all fixed at once when the turn signals stopped working).

My alternator went out at 42K.

The electric tail glass switch stopped working, I never had it fixed.

The lights on the instrument cluster that illuminate the speedometer periodically shut off. I have to hit the cluster to get them to come back on.

General Comments:

Over all, I really do like this truck. It looks pretty and I've taken good care of it. I am lucky I bought an extended bumper to bumper warranty on it so all of the above repairs only cost me $250 out of pocket, but about $3800 worth of work.

Faults:

Shortly after purchasing my Jimmy the check engineer came on three time, water pump replaced $985.00.

Then the heater core under warranty not sure on cost.

4X4 not working properly, buttons on dash would not even work.

Hood cable broke, bearings were replaced $565.00. Glad I bought the extended warranty.

Then the intake gasket blew causing the gas gauge to stick at 3/4 of a tank all the time.

Now I have howling in the transmittion, having that checked soon. I'm worried about the cost!!! My warranty is now expired.

Good luck to anyone purchasing a Jimmy I know I will never buy one again. It has had over $6,000 in repairs in the last 4 years I have owned it. Soon it will be gone!!!

Faults:

Seat Recline handle broke on both front seats.

Heater core needed to be back flushed to restore heat to car.

Door hinges need to be replaced on both doors.

Cover to vanity mirrors have broken off.

Wheel hub and idler arms were replaced.

Alternator does not fully charge the battery.

Grease fittings had to be replaced.

General Comments:

Attractive and useful vehicle, but no quality in workmanship.

I have a 2000 Blazer LT, 4 door and have been through the same issues as the Jimmy.

Faults:

Lower Ball Joints - Replaced Twice - Only symptom was clunk sound when turning left. Steering and tire wear normal.

Oil Lines - Twice - Symptom was small puddle of oil underneath front of vehicle. Oil level doesn't change on dipstick. The lines have recently started leaking, again!

Alternator - Noisy bearing - The alternator was still charging the battery, but the noise was irritating, particularly when cold.

Battery - Replaced same time as alternator.

A/C - The A/C just stopped working last week. The compressor does not turn. The fix is bound to be expensive!

General Comments:

I certainly agree that the Jimmy is a relatively expensive vehicle to maintain, but evidently I've been lucky, so far, as I've had few problems compared to others. I'm not sure why, but at 80000 miles I'm still on the original brake rotors & pads! Perhaps some of my "luck" is due to being fanatical about maintenance such as oil, coolant, trans fluid changes. If I had to replace expensive bits like some of you, I would have dumped this thing long ago. There ARE better vehicles out there, but I got mine cheap, due to the rather abysmal resale value.
