1985 GMC S-15 Sierra 2.5L

Summary:

It was a bad year for GMC.

Faults:

Where to start.

1. I was driving down the highway when the rotor cracked, damaging the distributor cap at the same time.

2. The fuel pump went out.

3. The oxygen sensor went out.

4. The outside door handle (driver side) broke.

5. The transmission leaks.

6. The radiator leaks.

7. The power steering fluid leaks.

8. The brake fluid leaks.

9. The master cylinder went out.

General Comments:

This truck is slow, it takes a quarter mile to get up to 60mph.

It gets roughly 6-7 miles to a gallon of gas.

All these problems are fair wear and tear on a 17 year old car.

1985 GMC S-15 2.8L

Summary:

Cheap constructions and poor design

Faults:

GM really likes to make it inconvenient to work on your own vehicle. Oil and spark plug changes difficult to do even for mechanics. Head gaskets blew twice. Seats are lousy, weak and of the poorest quality I have ever seen in a vehicle.

Let's talk about rust bucket, two years after it rolled off the line there was surface bubbles of rust forming on the front fenders and rear bumper. Replaced several switches and knobs that either the chrome peeled off or broke. Never buy a 2.8 L with a manual transmission in the mountains.

General Comments:

Fairly reliable and good four wheel drive beater eventually.

1985 GMC S-15 2.5L Fuel Injected

Summary:

A great truck to get you to work, or to soup up

Faults:

The ignition went out once when I first got it, but a 15$ repair fixed that problem.

General Comments:

It's a great truck, I've had it for 3 years and I've never had a lick of trouble from her. I'd never let her go, when I first got her I left her alone. Then I souped it up and shes still doing wonders for me. The engine, and trannie are still stock and let me tell you. There unbreakable. Engine gives decent power, can cruise easily enough around 70 on the highway. The MPG isn't anything to write home about, but its not bad.

Hey man! looks like u've had a lot of luck with the truck. I just got a GMC, 1985 S-15. It's in great shape, but the steering column was all over the place. I repaired it and every since then, it's been runnign like a dream. so, yes, I agree with you 100% that they're good trucks.
