Faults:

The transmission locked up at 258,000 miles, original transmission it was.

Clutch went out at 256000 miles.

Rear end went out at 250000 miles.

Little stuff like shocks, headlights, brakes, clutch cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch line, rear brake lines, tires, not bad stuff.

General Comments:

Overall, I love this truck. It is bone stock and will make it through more than a lifted yota on 35's. It is a 5-speed powerhouse that will spin through second. Laid the longest black marks ever laid in my life.

I have replaced everything but the engine almost! It was well worth it though; I love that truck more than anything.

Faults:

The alternator went sour the day I bought the truck (my kind of luck). It was the easiest repair job I've ever done though, because there is an unreal amount of room under the hood and everything is very accessible!

My fuel pump needed to be replaced at roughly 213000km, but I've heard that it's pretty common for that to happen around that mileage.

It was stolen, so the steering column and a bunch of trim had to be replaced. I wouldn't mention the theft in the 'problems' category, but I have to as it is in the top 4 popular cars to steal in my area. They are apparently very easy to steal.

Paint has peeled on the roof and hood. That's the way I bought it.

General Comments:

This truck has been fantastic to me. I replaced it with a smaller newer import car to help save on gas, but I have switched back to driving the Sierra.

Its best quality is its reliability. For example: I drove my car all winter and let the snow bury the truck. Temperatures drop to -30's Celcius and I didn't start it once over winter. I dug it out and it fired on the first try... not even a sputter.

I use it frequently on forestry roads, so it takes a bit of a pounding. I have only ever had one problem while way out in the bush, but was able to limp it home (3 hours out of town and it got me to the shop).

It rides super smooth and will haul pretty much anything. I gave it a 7 out of 10 for running cost. It does chew a bit more gas than I'd like, but as for maintenance it is cheap. Parts are cheap, and as I said before, it's quite reliable for what it's put through.

I want to paint over the peeling roof and hood so it doesn't succumb to rust.

Faults:

Burns a bit of oil.

Speedometer doesn't work.

General Comments:

A few years ago, my uncle was going to send this truck to the crusher, but I begged him to let me have it. She's not pretty, but she gets the job done.

In the few years I've owned it, it's run like a champ - it's unbelievable that someone was just going to write this thing off for dead.

Of course, my friends ask me why I prefer to drive this truck when I've got a new GM product sitting in my garage - I can't explain it. I feel like I'm cheating on this old girl if I drive anything else.

But honestly, I mostly drive it to pick up building materials, and to haul a small boat on the weekends (300 miles round trip). She never lets me down, always starts the first time. She burns a bit of oil, but the engine is all original, it's to be expected, considering the miles. Last winter we had an awful snow storm, and this truck was able to bust through the snow in instances where the snowplows couldn't get through... and it's only a 2WD.
