Faults:

Was having transfer case (263HD) problems on '01 GMC 2500HD 4X4 when we had 150,000 miles on truck. Came to find out that the GMC shop said that a spring had worn a hole thru the transfer case, and needed to be replaced. Which of course we did replace it.

Now we have 209,000 miles on the truck, and the same thing has occurred again 2 years later. So this time we decided to try and fix it ourselves, and bought a used case off an '04 GMC 2500HD 4x4 wrecked truck. Got to looking at it, and it also had the exact same problem. We have been trying to find a fix for this problem, and came across a website called riversidegear.com that had an after market part for this problem.

General Comments:

I think GM needs to have a recall on their transfer cases for this problem. It costs way too much for customers to have to concern themselves with this problem.

Faults:

Fuel level indicator is stuck, so the 'low fuel level' light is almost constantly on. I have to re-set the manual trip mileage button after every fill-up so I know how much fuel is left.

The dealership put the wrong fluid in the transfer case, when they noticed the fluid level was low, and I have had problems since. The system has been flushed three times and the proper fluid (Auto Trak II), which is bright blue and smells like rotten eggs, has been put back in, but the problem persists. I am now wondering if I have the infamous pin size hole everyone speaks of. Can anyone tell me if their DIY fixes have worked? And if so, what? Also, if you've had the problem with the wrong fluid being put in, did simply flushing it and putting the right fluid in fix the problem?

The blower on the passenger side floor began making a horrible squealing noise. Turned out the switch was off and melted the inside of the blower.

General Comments:

Overall, it has been a decent truck.

I am just worried about the cost to fix the transfer case problem, and looking for a cheap option I can do myself.

Faults:

4x4 light came on at 190000km.

Had to replace the brake pads at 200000km.

General Comments:

The truck has had some 4x4 problems, but mostly due to the fact I'm 16, and off-roading quite a lot.

I was quite surprised at the towing power, and just the general acceleration of the truck. The truck has been put in towing events, (Truck Of War) and with it being 100% stock, has blown a lot of the competition out of the water. The truck has been used to pull many friends out of the ditch.

The truck is very stylish, it's a midnight black with chrome all the way around. The best thing you can do for your truck is to get LED/custom taillights and headlights. For 250$ you can make your truck look a lot more sleek.

I would suggest buying this truck. The only thing I EVER see wrong with it is the fact that it gets 13-14mpg.
