2006 GMC Sierra SLE 5.3L V8

Summary:

Mighty fine unit!

Faults:

Starter motor crapped out at 230,000km.

Oil pressure sending unit stopped working at 200,000km.

Driver's seat has no cushion left (compacted from years of sitting).

General Comments:

Someone tried to steal the truck by jamming a screwdriver into the ignition. They failed. I cleaned the interior and pulled out the broken screwdriver bit. Truck starts just fine and hasn't caused me problems at all since then.

This truck does not owe me a darn thing. It's been a beauty!

2006 GMC Sierra SLT 5.3 V8

Summary:

Looks and drives like a tank!

Faults:

Transmission went at 15,000km. But costs were covered & quickly fixed at dealer.

Tires wore around 70,000km.

Ext. "Nevada Edition" stickers peeled off a couple times.

General Comments:

Very spacious interior with the quad cab. It's decent for long distance road trips for a family of 3-4.

Very nice & comfy cloth seats.

Looks and drives like a tank.

SLT trim looks great.

Built in XM Radio was a plus.

Shifting gears are jerky.

Speakers are tinny and cheap.

Very good visibility.

2006 GMC Sierra 5.3L

Summary:

It's inexpensive and you get what you pay for

Faults:

Main complaint is cloth bucket seat comfort which is horrible. Makes me miss my Chevy Silverado leather seats. Hard spot on rear of seat from electric mechanism hits you right on tailbone.

Other problems all covered by warranty and all related to cheap plastics: passenger window channel (window would come out of the track), plastic bushing in steering column, plastic trim on front seat broke when it caught on my shoe, and tailgate plastic protector came lose.

Steering was out of alignment after 10K miles (not covered in warranty) resulting in need for new tires after 25,000 miles.

General Comments:

Good fuel mileage for a truck (22mpg hwy) and initial price are it's greatest qualities. If they could redesign the seats and quit using cheap plastic it would be a great improvement.

2006 GMC Sierra Denali 6.0 V8

Summary:

GMC is still the king of the trucks

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

The epitome of trucks. I love that these are not everywhere like the Yukon Denali.

This thing wants for nothing, I'd rather have it than any Caddy or Lincoln.

The Vortec Max engine is a powerhouse, and while it was quite thirsty while pulling a 7,000 lb trailer, I have managed 19-20 MPG on a road trip.

While the AWD system is great, it would be nice if it could be turned off when I want.

I still own my "previous vehicle" 1994 Silverado, and while it is a great truck, compared to the Denali it seems like a bucket of bolts.

2006 GMC Sierra SLE 2 5.3L Flex Fuel

Summary:

Absolutely awesome truck!

Faults:

I have had no problems with my truck thus far.

General Comments:

This has been the best truck I have owned to date.

The crew cab makes for plenty of room for everyone.

Auto 4x4 option has been handy for Alaska winters.

"Good" gas mileage considering you're running with a V8.

Tows my travel trailer like it is not even back there.

Payload/Power is outstanding; a bed full of top soil and 4 passengers and still had the power to pass the "slow guy."

Auto dual climate controls allow my wife and I to be comfortable.

Z71 is great in off road terrain and handles like a truck should; a truck.

I would not hesitate to buy another GM truck product.

Hope this truck lasts as long as my 1976 Chevy pickup that I am fixing-up.

I am the owner of this vehicle and I had to make a comment since I've now owned the truck for two full years. The truck now has 52K+ miles & so far the only problem I have is in the front brakes. The ceramic brake pads are doing a number on the rotors, I had the rotors turned at 38K miles and they need to be done again. Back in May/June I moved from Alaska to Georgia and used this truck to drive my family down through Canada & across the U.S. from California. The total mileage was 6K+ miles & I averaged 10 to 14 mpg. I was very impressed with my truck since it was fully loaded to include the bed, cab, and of course the travel trailer, and not to mention all the mountains and rough road conditions we faced. The truck took it and is still running & handling like the day I bought it. I know that everyone's opinion is different and every automotive company has made good & bad vehicles. However, on this one individual vehicle I can't see how anyone can complain about its dependability or capability. I've put this truck through a lot and it just keeps coming back for more.
