General Comments:

Good reliable vehicle. Especially the engine.

The simplicity of the base model Sonoma made it almost an enjoyable task to maintain.

Faults:

Both power windows will not work.

Radio does not work.

Hinges on driver door are worn out.

Middle console broken.

Bad paint from the factory.

General Comments:

The truck was the top of the line model in 1992, 4x4, SLE with power everything along with all the bells and whistles. Has the shift on the fly push button 4 wheel drive.

I purchased it new in 1992, and still have the truck and use it as a "spare" and for hunting. The truck is tough as nails!!!

It has the "W" code 4.3 V6 and came with a towing package, along with the "new venture gear 3500 5 speed tranny" (same one that put in the Sierra and Silverado)... the truck came from the factory with locking differentials and is IMPOSSIBLE to get stuck unless you hang up the bottom... it will really haul butt in the mud!!!

When new, the truck was "forest green metallic" in color, but now the paint has faded so bad it looks like an army truck painted dull green.

I have had two other GMC trucks since this one, and have never had the heart to trade it since it was such a good truck. My daily driver is a 2006 GMC Sierra 2 wheel drive regular cab with the 5.3.

My Sonoma is not pretty, some days she runs a little rough... but compared to other trucks I have owned it is a great truck... Her name is "THE LITTLE B******"... respect her!!

Faults:

I've fixed the air conditioner once.

I had a clutch go out at about 90000 miles.

Had a u-joint fail at 140000.

I fixed a minor oil leak at 110000 miles - it was the distributor o-ring.

An idler pulley failed at 117000, and ate up the belt.

That's about it.

General Comments:

This is a great little truck. I have owned it since I got my drivers license. I have used it to haul bigger loads than it was made for, but it has always prevailed. I have absolutely no complaints about this truck.

Faults:

Power window solenoids have both failed.

Parking brake lever broke at the cable end.

General Comments:

It's been a great buy from the start.

It always starts and never misses a beat.

Very low maintenance costs.

But, though it has good low end torque, it has little power for passing.

Finally, gas mileage should be better with an engine this small.

Faults:

Oxygen sensor failed. Cost about $75 and was very easy to replace myself. Drastically improved my fuel consumption.

CV-joint boot tore at 170000km. Can happen to any older vehicle though.

Rear leaf spring broke before I purchased the truck. Cost me about $300 to buy aftermarket ones and replaced myself.

Upper and lower ball joints along with idler arm need to be replaced soon. S-10s have a history of going through a lot of these. Will cost about $600 to replace at a repair shop.

Trip counter does not work anymore. Common problem with early 90's GM's.

Paint is showing a few rust spots, but otherwise is in very good condition.

Both rear and front bumpers are not chrome so they are rusting the worst.

General Comments:

I have the extended cab. Being 6', I find the cab almost too small. I don't recommend having passengers in the back seats. Only enough room for some more cargo.

After replacing the oxygen sensor and spark plugs, I found that it still has lots of power.

I am able to pull small trailers quite well in 4th gear on the highway.

The ride is typical of a truck. A little bouncy for my liking sometimes.
