1999 GMC Suburban SLT 5.7
Summary:
So far and keeping my fingers crossed, excellent!
Faults:
Got it with the driver's window not working, cracked front leather seats and cracked plastic on driver's door exterior handle. Seems like the previous owner took good care of it. BUT, I already changed the window motor and gear ensemble on the driver's window, replaced door lock and still will install new ones on the other three; I bought them all. Also changed the radio to a double DIN with GPS and DVD.
Purchased a new fuel pump to replace, even though it's still working.
Will do the brakes as the pedal is kind of low.
Replaced lower cushion leather seats on the two front buckets ($101.00 each).
Got a new steering wheel signal light and windshield wiper and cruise control stick (left side of steering). Cruise shuts off if I hit a bump, so went to a yard and got the cruise module on the firewall from a Silverado (same), still to be installed.
I have never owned any vehicle with more than 50,000 miles so this will be a test for me. It runs smoother than my ex 2018 crew cab, and with a 42 gallon tank I have reached my first 200 miles with one quarter of a tank. I have a gadget that gives me info on the engine and looks like I am getting about 14 to 16 in the city. I travel 309 miles back and forth to Florida twice a month and will be taking my first trip in two weeks, but I will be installing all the parts previously mentioned, plus a water pump as I do not know if it has ever been changed. Wish me luck!
If I should be aware of anything to look for, please send me an email to OhRobocop@aol.com and God Bless you all. (Manny)
General Comments:
For some reason, even if the interior is very similar to my ex 2018 Silverado, I feel like a stranger in this car. Don't know if I have not found the right seat position or the steering wheel tilt is off maybe, as it's hard to see the end of the hood; whatever it is I feel still not used to it.
It runs very smooth, can barely hear the transmission shift, but I feel vibration in the steering at 65 mph, but if I hit 70 it goes away, so I feel the new tires were not balanced properly.
I hope the transmission holds as I tow a tandem trailer at times.
Great space inside, my Shepherd will love it and the cat too, LOL.
I changed the rear tail lights as the original ones were kind of opaque. I had the old fashioned cassette tape and the DVD installed from the factory. Changed to a double DIN radio with all the goodies including GPS, and I can or should I say my passengers can watch a movie as I drive (ground brown wire to metal on body).
In all I hope I have good luck with it; I used to be an assembler and then a production foreman at a Chevy plant, so repairs are OK with me. Trim shop was my section, so replacing the seat covers was a breeze. Also took all the seats off, cleaned and sprayed carpet after pressure washing with beige color, came out like new.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
