1984 GMC Van Vandura 2500 305 V8

Summary:

Comfortable, but costly and poorly designed

Faults:

Exhaust system is a nightmare.

Tight engine compartment makes working on engine a real hassle.

305 V8 is not powerfull enough for this size of van.

Paint fades and blisters even if kept waxed.

Quadrajet 4 barrel carburetor is a fuel hog and prone to problems.

Air Conditioning Unit (compressor) does not last long.

Van is a pain to drive on windy days, blows all over the road.

General Comments:

This van has one thing going for it provided it is not windy out. It is comfortable to travel in.

It has a great interior.

It is a gas hog to put it mildly.

A good old 250 straight 6 would have been better than this worthless 305 V8.

It's overdrive Automatic Transmission is sluggish and if you hope to climb even a mild hill you better have it in regular drive not OD.

Up nice and high can see over most traffic.

We expected much better from G.M.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I think there is something wrong with your 305.

Your heat riser valve and/or your thermostatically-controlled ignition timing switch may be stuck. Both will reduce power and increase fuel consumption.

These are easy problems to fix and make a huge difference.

Where are those timing switches? My 84 GMC van has the same problem.
