1991 Honda Accord LX Sedan 2.2L SOHC

Summary:

Almost 180,000 miles and still rolling!

Faults:

The CV axles, radiator, and clutch had to be replaced at around 140,000 miles.

I have been constantly battling with the front brakes. I have yet to get them back to original feel.

A/C causes clutch to overheat. Cannot use Max A/C without problems.

General Comments:

This car is a masterpiece of automotive engineering. It's comfortable, simple, reliable, efficient, and elegant. It is definitely my favorite generation Accord.

Overall it has been a very reliable daily driver. It is definitely starting to show its age, but it still runs strong. The 91 feels more solid than my girlfriend's 96 Accord.

It is rather sporty for a family sedan (especially with the 5-speed), and it gets excellent gas mileage. I average about 31 mpg.

The interior is very comfortable making it an excellent trip car. The controls are very simple and driver oriented.

My stepfather bought a 1990 Accord EX-R with 293000 miles about 4 months ago and it runs like a charm. IT does have a few issues, valvetrain noise and the tranny seems to slip a bit once in a while, but other than that there hasn't been any trouble with it. Sure, the AC and cruise doesn't work, but the body doesn't have one single rust hole, anywhere!

1991 Honda Accord SE 4 Cyliner

Summary:

This car is kicking butt and taking names

Faults:

The distributor is the "Achilles Heal" of the Accord, however it only cost about 40$ and a half our of my time to replace. I also replaced the both front CV joints at 110,000. Although new CV joints are only about 100$ total, they take forever to install. Except for those, only regular maintenance.

General Comments:

This is an absolutey amazing car. I bought it with 75000 miles and have put another 100000 miles on it about 4 years. Although it only has a 4 banger I have smoked many cars with 6 cylinder engines. The se model is nice because it is loaded with a leather interior, power moonroof, windows, mirrors etc. I would recommend this car to anyone. I have only upgraded a couple of things: Racing Computer Booster, HO Exhaust and New Acura rims. Most people always recommend accords for a "good first car", but the truth of the matter is even if I had a million dollars I would still buy another 91'Accord with no questions asked. The only other car that I have ever owned that is as high quality as this is my 96VW Jetta Trek Edtion. The only thing I would change about it is the lower hp. It could use a little extra horse power for the fast and the curious. This is the best car ever.

1991 Honda Accord Special Edition 2.8 4 Cylinder

Summary:

The Accord is an excellent vehicle

Faults:

I had to replace the Anti-Lock Brake system on the rear end only. Also, the distributor is the only Achilles Heel of the Honda Accord. I had to replace it at 100,000 miles. Luckily they are not very expensive but fairly easy to repair.

General Comments:

1991 was the first year that Honda came out with the SE model. This is by far and long one of the best cars I have ever owned. For a 4-cylinder engine, it can go very fast.

I have had very few problems with the car. It's probably the most reliable car I've ever had. Aside from regular maintenance (ie, tires, brakes, oil changes) I have probably only spent a total of 500 dollars in repairs over the course of 4 years.

These vehicles get excellent gas mileage.

The only downfall was that my local Honda dealership were not helpful in anyway and were also extremely expensive, so avoid Honda dealerships if possible. Aside from poor service from the dealership, this is the best vehicle I have ever owned and highly recommend the Accord. You will not be disappointed.

The SE was the top of the line accord. It took the EX's additions over the LX (added 15 inch tires instead of 14's, a slightly bigger engine adding 5hp, and moonroof) and added ABS, leather seats, and leather steering wheel trim.

The models in order were DX, LX, EX, and SE. Your LX was hardly the flagship.

I had a DX and it was a great car for over 17 years. It had some problems with the engine mounts, side view mirrors and transmission control unit, but it was still a great car.
