1992 Honda Accord EX-R 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great car, just be nice to it!

Faults:

Muffler and exhaust rusted off, causing the car to choke during low rpm acceleration.

Driver side window came off track, making a very unpleasant opening around the window, that causes wind noise and rain to get it.

Rear bumper clips rusted.

Fuel lines broke, causing a very major gas leak.

Air conditioning doesn't work.

Steering wheel jerks and shakes, even after getting an alignment.

Rust everywhere, but seeing the car has been through so many country roads over the years, it's expected.

General Comments:

There haven't been any serious engine problems with this car since I first owned it, or since my family first got it when it was new.

This car can definitely handle long trips without fail.

A comfortable ride, and spacious interior.

As a first car for a young student, it's very economical, but you must be able to provide maintenance as soon as it's needed, and try not to drive it on roads it just cannot go on, or else it will slowly start to deteriorate to a point of no return!

It's lasted a long time, but of course, my negligence since taking it over has caused most of it's problems, otherwise, I'm sure it would go another 200,000 kms!

1992 Honda Accord EX 2.2 6 cylinder

Summary:

Very nice car

Faults:

Nothing serious. The car had a few dings when I first got it. This Accord is a great first car, I have had it for 2 years and has never failed. The only real problem was the muffler. It wasn't in very good shape when I got it, and eventually dropped off in NYC.

General Comments:

I like this car, parts are readily available, reliable and cheap. I have never had a real problem. I added a new muffler that looks really nice. Other than the muffler I have added other parts. For the all knowing, the typical Accord was a 2.2 4 cylinder, I made it a 6 cylinder.

1992 Honda Accord LX 2.0 litre 4-cylinder

Summary:

Lean, mean driving machine

Faults:

Timing belts have gone. If it goes wrong in a Honda, it's the timing belts. This model unfortunately has TWO.

Not much else has any wear or tear.

No rust on the body despite constant exposure to the outside.

After two years of driving this car, it is now with two options for heat: hot, or whatever temperature it is outside.

General Comments:

The car handles supremely well. The faster it goes, the better it drives. Cruise control is nice to have, and the brakes are very responsive.

The interior is extremely roomy compared to the Corolla, and despite the two doors, it carries five passengers much more comfortably than a Toyota.

Air conditioning and cup holders would be nice, but they are not a must.

The quality of the stock speakers leave something to be desired as the deck produces great sound, but unfortunately the speakers were very easily blown. The remedy will be very expensive as there are four speakers to replace.

No road noise.

Great on gas, and it wonderfully has a huge gas tank so it is not constantly needing to be refueled.

I actually just bought my first car and it is a 1992 Honda Accord LX sedan,4 door, 4cyl, auto... I bought it for 450 bucks. I guess they needed rent so their loss was my gain. It has a new head, head gasket, new timing belt, new radiator, new throttle, after market exhaust, and nice rims... they wanted, but you never offer full price. I am 19 years, a lil late to buy a vehicle, but I'm a girl...

And to all you people that have Honda Accords, they are the number one most stolen, but they're number one on reliability, and resale value...

General Comments:

Let me start by saying I love this car. I have delivered pizza in this car for about 4 years, driving between 100-300 miles per day.

The repairs above may look like a lot, but to be fair to the car, I haven't been the best owner. I only changed the oil about every 15,000-20,000 miles, never replaced the timing belt, and only replaced the air filter once. I worked it like a mule, every day I have owned it, and it has always been ready for more.

My lack of maintenance resulted in a gummed up engine that caused the camshaft to seize and the engine was ruined. This has also caused the failure of 2 radiators and both cooling fans as the car was trying to deal with all the extra heat of the sludged engine. But, honestly... until the day it stopped running, I had no idea anything was even wrong with it... it still ran great!

I guess maybe you CAN kill a Honda, but you have to try REALLY hard!

I paid $6000 for this car, and have put probably $2000 into it, including the new engine.

Here's to another 250,000 miles!

Did you have problems replacing the fan knob? They entire inside metal stick thing is cracked and a mechanic has worked on it for 2 days. The Honda parts person said all there is to it is to remove 2 screws and the metal thick thing that the knob attaches to can easliy be replaced. Replacing hte knob is easy, but since the silver stick think is broken, the new knob does not have anything to grab on to.
