1995 Honda Accord EX VTEC

Summary:

The most reliable and best used car available

Faults:

At six months old the electrical system had to be completely rewired (under warranty). No problems since then.

At 3 years old the driver side power window died -- the dealer fixed no charge even though 2 months out of warranty. The windows are very slow now.

The temperature control dial is too tight, so the plastic connector in the knob has broken 5 times (so I have to pay $5 for a new dial every time).

I only get about 20MPG city -- seems awfully low for a small car.

General Comments:

This car is great! I like it better now than when I bought it 8 years ago.

I am never in the shop (except oil changes).

My mechanic marvels at how well it drives and is in perfect condition.

OK, you say the car is the most reliable car. However, in your review all you do is list the negative aspects of the car. I don't consider having a car rewired after 6 months as acceptable for being reliable.

Hmm? I guess I need to elaborate since the person who replied to my review clearly didn't get it. I listed the things wrong with the car in the section for "things that have broken on the car." Certainly not to overstate them.

I've had the car for over 8 years and spent a total of $25 for repairs (those darn temperature control knobs). Sure the wiring was bad from the factory -- but it was fixed for free and has run perfectly since then.

If my critic doesn't recognize a great car from my description, I suggest he buys an 8 year old Domestic car and drive it for a while -- actually a 4 year old one probably has had more problems than my Accord.

1995 Honda Accord LX 2.2L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Extremely reliable family car, but go for the manual trans. if you want more power

Faults:

The only thing that I needed to do after purchasing my beloved Accord was to recharge the air conditioning system. It had a minor leak that I patched up myself with silicone. Total cost - $190 (Canadian).

Other than that, absolutely NOTHING went wrong!!!

General Comments:

Although I've only had the car for a short time, I have all of the service records from the previous owner, so I know that this is an extremely reliable car!

The ride is very comfortable, the engine is quiet (for a 4 cylinder), the fit and finish is excellent, and the interior design is VERY modern, comparable to most American cars of today.

Japanese cars all the way!!!

I wrote this original review, and would like to update you on what is happening.

My car has just passed 250 000km, and guess what? Still nothing wrong!!! It is absolutely bullet proof. I am very amazed at the reliability of this car! Still has an original motor, transmission, clutch, suspension, and paint. It has some rust bubbles by the rear fender - nothing that I can't do myself. Recently I drove it through 2 feet (600mm) of water due to flooding in our city. The car handled beautifully, without having to replace a single thing!

A few gripes that I have - The handling is nothing like my previous Civic, even with wider tires (I miss that), the cup holders are only big enough for cans or small cups (Big Gulp slur-pees will not fit), and the transmission is clunky (nothing like the smooth short throw shifting of the Civic).

Other than that, it is the best car I've ever owned, and I'll probably drive it until it dies!

1995 Honda Accord EX 2.2

Summary:

A generally dependable car

Faults:

I have had the car for two weeks.

The ugly factory muffler is wearing out (the one with two small pipes), and the left pipe is hanging on by a thread.

The door "pops" whenever you open it, a common problem. Honda will not let you order the part that you need to fix it, rather they make you buy an entire door jam and other countless accessories to go along with it, totaling $600. Not to mention the cost of labor with a fast mechanic, easily being another $400. So I would have to pay $1000 to not have my door pop. Not worth it.

Some pump in the engine has also broke, I can't even remember what it is, probably $50 or so to replace it.

General Comments:

It has been a great car overall, not considering the door situation, which is bull****.

It accelerates nicely, the transmission shifts really hard sometimes even when I don't get on it, sometimes at 4K.

The interior is real nicely laid out. The only problems with the interior is that the headliner is made of some strange plastic rubber crap that is so soft that if you press against it lightly, it leaves a mark forever. Thus, there are tons upon tons of marks on the headliner from the previous owner.

It also gets great gas mileage.
