1996 Honda Accord EX/EXR 2.2L VTEC

Summary:

Quality beyond re-approach!

Faults:

I've only had this car for about a month now, but I've put more miles in this car than I thought. In the first week of ownership, I've put a total of 1255 miles in the car. I've been up and down the Washington coast with it and it's proven itself to be a typical Honda, which pretty much means no big problems. None at all with this car. I've only had to change the oil & filter, but that's typical. Great car!

General Comments:

To begin with, I've always driven Honda products such as Honda cars, and Acura cars. Their reliability is beyond re-approach. Their track record is one of the best in the industry and therefore, I willl continue to purchase Honda products. I bought this 96 Accord EX-L about some 260 miles away from where I live. The ride is outstanding especially since it has leather upholstery. It's quiet and the engine can at times be noisy, but it gets the job done and it does it very well.

1996 Honda Accord EX Vteck

Summary:

A great car

Faults:

The car has been perfect.

General Comments:

The car handles great and has a good amount get up and go for it being a 4-cylinder.

Great gas mileage. I got from Tucson to just outside of LA on a tank of gas.

It has safely brought me out of 2 major wrecks. The first wreck I was hit on the drivers side door extremely hard and I came out untouched.

The second crash my car was totaled, but yet I came out with only a sore neck.

It has a nice look to it and as long as you take it in for it's check ups. The car will last you for ever.

I had a 1996 accord also it made its through 2 wrecks, but just recently died for good on the third one. I'd have to say the airbags are pretty comfy.

1996 Honda Accord LX

Summary:

Money pit

Faults:

At just before 100,000 miles, the car's harmonic balancer went out, which in turn busted two of my oil seals. All of the sudden my oil light comes on. Well, I just had an oil change, so I thought something went wrong there. I put more oil in the engine and brought it to my mechanic. By the time I got it to him, the low gear cylinder was cracked. Replaced the engine with another Honda Accord engine with roughly 33,000 miles on it. About 8 months later, received a recall on the harmonic balancer for my old engine. About a month after that, the same thing happened to the "new" engine, luckily I didn't blow a cylinder this time.

Honda payed to fix my car the second time. Trying to get back the over $2000 I spent fixing the problem the first time. They are only willing to pay back about 10% of what I've put out so far.

Another minor note, the car is low in the front and tends to scrape bottom when crossing dips.

General Comments:

If Honda had just made this right to begin with, I would have no qualms about buying another Honda. I've really enjoyed the car other than those two incidents, which I've been very distraught over. However, I don't want to deal with a company that will not make things right.

Also owned a '96 LX, it had several stupid problems, like the driver side window would not want to go up, and the windshield actuator had too much slack and made wiper strike edge of windsheild seal. Also, wires became loose inside of distributor, causing the car to randomly go dead while going down the road. Oh-- best for last-- transmission died at 94000 miles. I fixed it and sold it.
