1996 Honda Accord V6

Summary:

The Accord is comfortable and fun, but has had too many high-dollar repairs

Faults:

I have performed the following repairs at my expense on my 1996 Honda Accord V-6:

1999 - 37,000 miles A/C compressor replaced.

2003 - 47,000 miles - numerous leaks, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, water pump, camshaft seal, o-ring, crankshaft seal.

2005 - CV boots, numerous oil leaks, rotors, calipers, ABS modulator and accumulator, alternator.

2006 - ABS modulator defective after 5000 miles; brake light switch, power-steering pump seal.

2007 - struts.

General Comments:

I didn't expect to replace a Honda AC compressor at 37k, an ABS at 94k, or an alternator at 102k. The replacement ABS modulator was pumping excessively after 5000 miles, but the dealer checked it (without running a diagnostic) and said it was OK.

Late last year, after the ABS warranty had expired, I presented it with the same problem. The dealer ran a diagnostic and found - voila! - that the modulator is bad. Neither the dealer nor American Honda will replace it despite my having taken it in originally within the 12,000 miles/ 12 mos. warranty. I am appealing this decision.

I have had extensive recall/extended warranty work done as well, including the distributor, sensor circuit, and computer.

I love the way the V6 handles, and we have a 2000 Odyssey, but I will not buy another Honda. The Odyssey is reputed to have many problems as well - we just haven't experienced them yet.

1996 Honda Accord LX 2.2L

Summary:

Just got it

Faults:

I just bought that car. This is my first vehicle. It has just over 110,000miles.

General Comments:

I am looking for a cold air intake for it. I'm not trying to spend a bundle, but I want a decent intake system. Any ideas or suggestions? Please e-mail me at aln2590@hotmail.com THANKS!

1996 Honda Accord LX 2.2 16v

Summary:

This is an AWESOME car!

Faults:

A/C Compressor Clutch went out at 223,000 miles.

General Comments:

I own a 1996 Honda Accord 4-door LX. The only thing that has gone wrong with this car is that the A/C Compressor Clutch went out at 223,00 miles. This has been a very reliable car and besides regular maintenance, I have only had to put about $150.00 in the car for the A/C Compressor.

This car also gets unbelievably great gas mileage, which get 35-40 mpg :)

Did I mention it is unbelievable fast? It may only have a 2.2 l engine, but I have raced mustangs, cameros, and V-8 trucks and smoked them!

1996 Honda Accord LX 2.2L

Summary:

This car is great, I love it

Faults:

Replaced radiator, hoses and the thermostat at 118,000 miles.

When I purchased vehicle, routine maintenance, oil change, air filter and spark plugs, wires and distributor were new!

General Comments:

I would definitely buy a Honda Accord again. The one I purchased, lucky me, was a 1 owner, carfax certified accident free, green 4 door 1996 Accord for $4500 dollars.

Best car I have ever owned, best deal also. Also, I get an average 28 mpg gallon.

My dad had a 1991 Accord EX, and drove it to 230,000 miles. It still ran good, but he sold it because he wanted a newer car.

1996 Honda Accord LX 2.2 4 Cylinder

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

The brakes tend to go quickly on this car, but I chalk that up to the way I drive it.

General Comments:

With the 5spd this thing is sporty! I top out at 120mph and the car is absolutely silent even at those speeds. I have worn through the suspension and I regularly wear out the brakes, but aside from that it keeps going. With an engine built in America and Honda opening more plants in the USA it pays to buy Honda.

I would recommend that people enjoy driving and not having to worry about repairs buy this car. In fact after 10 years of usage and 130,000 miles this car still has the feel of being new.

Replace the sound system though, the head unit that comes in these sounds like it should for costing Honda $25 - $50 in 96'.

My last car was a 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham that I inherited from my grandfather in High School.
