1996 Honda Accord V6
Summary:
The Accord is comfortable and fun, but has had too many high-dollar repairs
Faults:
I have performed the following repairs at my expense on my 1996 Honda Accord V-6:
1999 - 37,000 miles A/C compressor replaced.
2003 - 47,000 miles - numerous leaks, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, water pump, camshaft seal, o-ring, crankshaft seal.
2005 - CV boots, numerous oil leaks, rotors, calipers, ABS modulator and accumulator, alternator.
2006 - ABS modulator defective after 5000 miles; brake light switch, power-steering pump seal.
2007 - struts.
General Comments:
I didn't expect to replace a Honda AC compressor at 37k, an ABS at 94k, or an alternator at 102k. The replacement ABS modulator was pumping excessively after 5000 miles, but the dealer checked it (without running a diagnostic) and said it was OK.
Late last year, after the ABS warranty had expired, I presented it with the same problem. The dealer ran a diagnostic and found - voila! - that the modulator is bad. Neither the dealer nor American Honda will replace it despite my having taken it in originally within the 12,000 miles/ 12 mos. warranty. I am appealing this decision.
I have had extensive recall/extended warranty work done as well, including the distributor, sensor circuit, and computer.
I love the way the V6 handles, and we have a 2000 Odyssey, but I will not buy another Honda. The Odyssey is reputed to have many problems as well - we just haven't experienced them yet.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No
