1996 Honda Accord LX 2.2L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Overall these are really great cars, I would buy another one

Faults:

I love my Honda!

Here is a list of stuff that broke on mine and most Accord's will need also.

#1, Rear main oil seal went at 124,000 miles. Rare for any car.

#2, Radiator went 1 weeks after that. Be aware these cars do need radiator replacements, because the plastic tops develop cracks.

#3, Timing belt replaced because the belts were old, you have 4 belts on these cars and they need done every 90,000 miles. If you don't replace them and the timing or balance shaft belt goes, so long motor.

I knew the belts needed done, and knew it was a matter of time for the 10 year old radiator as well when I bought it. But did not expect the rear main seal to go.

General Comments:

This car drives like a BMW - tight and responsive. Great fuel economy and nice interior and controls.

1996 Honda Accord LX 2.2 liter 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great buy and easy to maintain

Faults:

The window regulator for the driver side door needs to be replaced.

Transmission is slowly starting to fade.

General Comments:

I have mostly grown up knowing that hondas' are great performing and long lasting cars, and the Honda Accord is no exception. The accord that I have came with a few nice amenities such as power everything and cruise control. The one thing that I just don't understand is how the original window sticker states that I have a six disc cd changer that is located in the trunk, but first I am supposed to buy one?

Does anybody know where I can find me one without having to go to a Honda Dealership and pay some ridiculous amount of money.

But other than that I really like this car. The previous owner that I bought the car from had all kinds of protection put on the car. Such as an extra clear coat on the paint, sound deafening sprayed on the undercarriage and a protective coating off who knows what on the dashboard. I highly recommend having this done on any car because the paint looks better than it ever has and when you are driving down the freeway at about 80 it is very sound. I also fit very well in this car too. Considering I am 6'3" and about 200 pounds, it is one of the more better rides I have ridden in.

1996 Honda Accord LX

Summary:

Looks good, but has an uncomfortable ride

Faults:

I don't know if its me or most of them are having back problems when driving this car.

Accords are supposed to be spacious, but this one lack good space. I wonder if five of us can ride comfortably.

Problems with air conditioning. Car takes a long time to cool with full freon too.

I would not recommend anyone.

General Comments:

The shape of the car is impressive. Its sleek look got me to go for it.

Has good gas mileage and is very economical in high gas prices.

1996 Honda Accord LX

Summary:

Have issues, expensive to maintain, but reliable

Faults:

Bought two of these cars same day in 1995 October from local dealer. Always had them serviced at dealer regularly which is really expensive, especially 60, 75, 90 thousand miles service. As part of regular service the dealer has replaced my CV-Boots, Joints, Struts, Timing Chain etc. around 75,000 miles.

Light Blue Car-1.

1. At 45000 mile A/C leak, it costed me $550

2. At 90000 miles master cylinder leaked, had to replace

3. At 120000 miles Starter gone bad, had to replace

4. At 120000 miles radiator leaked, had to replace

5. Currently Driver side control does not work to power up or down that passenger side window, mechanic wants $200 to replace the control

6. Driver side door lock has developed some problem, makes lot of noise when it locks, mechanic wants $350

7. Rear Driver side door does not open from inside, did not bother to tell the mechanic.

Car-2 (Silver)

1. Had to replace master cylinder (brakes) at 90,000 miles

2. Had to replace both radiator fans at 92,000 miles, it costed me $700

3. Had to replace radiator at 101,000 miles

4. Had to replace the A/C leak at 110,000 miles, it costed me $350.

General Comments:

Overall these cars have been reliable. They did not fail on me on road.

But, for me they are very expensive machines to maintain. Every time, I take to dealer it costs around at least $500 - $800 for 60, 75, 90 thousand miles service.

In addition to that there are numerous issues with this model, which I did not expect from HONDA.

With regards to your rear door not opening from the inside, check if your child safety lock is on. That might be your only problem. Just turn it off. Your manual should tell you where to find it and how to use it. Also, I only service my Honda at a local garage which has genuine Honda parts, and have never been happier. I'll never go to over-priced dealers. Consider that.

Does anyone know how to fix the door locks constantly clicking when locked? I had the actuator replaced (or so the dealer said they did), but it is back to doing it again. It ran down my battery. Please help.
