1999 Honda Accord LX-A

Summary:

Honda Accord, no other is close to it in this category

Faults:

Problem faced in 8 years -

-Flat tires 4 times

-Tire replacement 1 time (Michelin is the best)

-Brake replacement 2 times

-Roter replacement 1 time.

That's it! That's all I paid extra other than regular servicing.

General Comments:

Best car to have. Owned and driven for 8 years and still runs and looks like brand new car (whenever I wash it!). I very much rely on it especially during long drive, nighttime driving in all weather conditions. Infact, while rush driving, I felt it more reliable than camry.

May be the timely maintenance and service is the key.

1999 Honda Accord LX Sedan 2.3 VTEC

Summary:

Better than most

Faults:

My axel bearing seals went bad at 96000.

At 101,000 miles (now) my check engine light is on indicating a catalytic converter problem. my gas mileage had dropped from 28-29 to 22-23 suddenly.

General Comments:

I love this car even though the axel bearing seals went bad. It was a HUGE stroke of luck for me that they went bad right before the 100,000 mile warranty expired because Honda replaced the transmission!for no cost. I only knew something was wrong when I went under to do an oil change and there was a visible transmission fluid leak. Therefore I highly reccomend that people check their transmission fluid level frequently because this could happen to you and if it is not covered under warranty it will obviously be an expensive repair.

Now my check engine light is on and an auto parts store read the code for me and said it is a catalytic converter problem. I certainly don't have the money to fix it so I will have to see what happens.

Sometimes the car shakes violently when I brake hard, say from 80 to zero in the space of a long exit ramp.

But all in all it has been an awesome car.

1999 Honda Accord LX 2.3L 4 cylinder Vtec

Summary:

The best mid-sized sedan ever, case closed!

Faults:

The front brakes (calipers) went bad at 88,000 miles.

The starter was recalled at 85,000 miles.

General Comments:

At 96,000 miles this car handles better and is more reliable than both brand new 2003 and 2004 Chevy Malibu's I have had. The 2.3L V-tec is extraordinarily powerful for a 4 cylinder engine. All I need is a basic tune-up and a front wheel alignment and I'll have a brand new car, even with 100,000 miles under it's belt.

Chevy could never make a mid-size sedan that could ever compare to the Honda Accord. In fact there is no manufacturer that can.

1999 Honda Accord EX V6

Summary:

I am disappointed with this car, it's poorly designed and poorly built

Faults:

EGR valve - twice

Leaking rear main engine seal ($700)

Check engine light seems like it's always on now at 58000 miles.

General Comments:

I will not buy another Honda, at least not one made in America. My 1998 Odyssey, made in Japan, has been utterly reliable.

Interior squeaks and rattles, especially during winter.

Transmission is clunky. I consider it "semi-automatic" because you need you carefully manipulate the gas pedal to get the car to shift smoothly. Does not downshift from 2nd to 1st well and when it does it tends to slam into 1st - you'd think the thing was hit with a sledgehammer.

The check engine light is on constantly since about 50000 miles and no one can get it to stay off. I wish the bulb would burn out!

The ride is stiff and noisy. There is excessive wind and road noise. It bounces over bumps instead of absorbing them.

I bought the car because I had such good experience with my previous 2 Hondas. I also was bamboozaled because of its gorgeous exterior looks. I won't make the same mistake twice.

Hello everyone, I own a 1998 EX 3.0L V-Tec and love it. I bought it with 198,200km and had to do almost nothing but regular maintenance. Just about 2 months ago I put $1800 into it, and bought new Michelin tires (top of the line), replaced all the rotors, pads and 1 caliper, 1 upper control arm, and a passenger rear wheel bearing. Did the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and filters.

This car has been the best I have ever owned, and boy oh boy it flies when you punch it.

So far no other problems, and now have 329,000km. Thinking of trading it in for something a little higher up; due to a back injury, it's hard to get in and out of. But so far all the dealers will not give me a good value for a trade in. I know my car, and know it's very good and strong and reliable, and I think I'll live with it and drive it till it drops. Way to go Honda; the only thing they could of done was make it available in a standard OMG!! Could you imagine that? Thanks...
