2001 Honda Accord DX 2.0L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Reliable, just like they say!

Faults:

Front brakes wore out and needed to be replaced.

General Comments:

We owned it for about 3 years, it was the newest car we had ever owned.

Very reliable, but the DX had no frills at all. We really started to miss the power windows, locks, cruise control, etc.

The engine gets warm quick, which is a real plus in cold weather!!!

I have a bad back and that car did not sit well with me. My Ford F250 Diesel ('97) is much more comfortable to ride in.

Not as fuel efficient as you might expect from a 4 cylinder, but it made up for it in power. I would have to say that this car had more pep than any other 4 cylinder/auto trans I have driven.

This car handled like a sports car! (Well at least from the perspective of a Truck diver who hasn't even been behind the wheel of a sports car...)

We will miss the reliability, but not the fact that it had no frills, which is what the DX model is; and what we expected it to be.

In the future when we say to each other "well, we can live without that feature" we will remember this experience.

-Tucker.

2001 Honda Accord EX four cylinder

Summary:

You mean there's actually such a thing as a good Honda?

Faults:

The transmission blew and had to be replaced at roughly 30,000 miles, and the new one is already starting to show signs of going out.

Build quality suffers from Honda's corner-cutting and cheap, low-grade steel.

The interior is starting to show signs of severe wear with light use.

The throttle sticks, making it very hard to operate smoothly.

The brake rotors are warped for the second time within 10,000 miles with normal driving.

Console lid is loose.

General Comments:

Nothing seems to hold together on this car. Just like the other three Hondas we have had, the interior is falling apart. The transmission is typical Honda: flimsy. This car, at 50,000 miles, is starting to blow its second transmission. I gently leaned on the left front fender and it left a dent the size of my hand. I have jumped on my 1990 Volkswagen and it suffered no damage. Recently the Accord went through a light hail storm, which caused severe body damage, even though my VW weathered it with no trouble whatsoever. The chassis shimmies over the slightest imperfection in the road, and causes plenty of annoying rattles and squeaks. Outside, the body panels are poorly aligned. The slightest pressure causes the bumpers to deform. Not bend, but completely deform! Of course, this Accord also lags behind competitors in the technological areas as well. I'll keep my Volkswagen, thank you.

I think we have a VW sales person. I have an Accord (2002 manual) and there is no way you are getting the problems you state with your car.

I agree with his comments after owning 3 Accords. Overall, the car is under-engineered and somewhat fragile. The sheet metal is too thin and the interior plastic easily breaks. However, if you baby this vehicle, you should be able to get several hundred thousand miles out it.

2001 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder

Summary:

One of the most reliable cars you'll ever own

Faults:

An ongoing issue with the transmission. As we all know, when you press the brake pedal it releases the shifter to allow you to place the vehicle into drive or reverse. Sometimes it's not catching so I am not able to get the car into 'D.' I've since replaced a wiring harness (for around $150 - labor included) everything has been working fine for over 3 months.

General Comments:

A great all-around vehicle. If you're looking for a vehicle that gets excellent gas mileage, smooth ride, and that will last you over 300,000 miles, the Honda Accord is the way to go.

Even though most of the time I prefer SUV's or trucks due to their size and comfortability, the Accord actually has a lot of room for a car.

The only ongoing complaint I have is that if you're going to be making long trips (450+ miles) the seats are going to get a little uncomfortable. There is a knob on the drivers side to adjust the tilt of the seat, although this does very little, it helps.

As I said before this is an extremely reliable vehicle to own and a pleasure to drive. The resale value is also considerably higher than other cars so if you're one to trade in a couple of years you won't loose as much.

I would certainly recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Well if you don`t mine replacing the transmission ever 50000 miles. I guess it's a pretty good car.

My 00 Accord has 150,000 miles on it and does not need to be replaced. I maintain my car and I think that the ones that need replacing more often are not maintained. Plain and simple!
