2002 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder
Summary:
A very poor paint job on the front bumper
Faults:
I purchased a new Honda Accord (2002) on June 21st, of this year. While washing it at a car wash using a pressure washer, a piece of paint peeled off of the front bumper. I phoned the salesman at the dealership, and he told me that this happens all the time, and it was probably from a tiny stone chip, and then using the pressure washer made a loony sized piece of paint to peel off. The salesman told me that I shouldn't use a pressure washer, because that is what will continue to happen. The salesman suggested that I buy a $200. front protector to save the paint. I phoned to the customer services department at Honda, and this man told me that peeling paint is very unusual, and I should take it back to the dealership and have the body mechanic check it out. I took it to the dealership and the supervisor told me, yes it's a stone chip, and the pressure washer peeled the paint, there is no warranty for that, we can fix it for $300. or put on some touch-up paint. He sold me a bottle of touch-up paint that is supposed to be a match, but what it looks like now is a silver car with a gray swab of paint on the front bumper. It's very disappointing spending over $24,000. on a new car, only to have the paint peel off before the car is 2 months old. Right now I don't know who is the bad guy, the dealership, or Honda, but it certainly has changed my opinion of the quality of the car.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I purchased a 1998 Honda civic last year, and the paint is bubbling up and peeling on both the front and back bumpers. After searching for "bad Honda paint job" on Google, it turns out this is a recurring theme. My dealership repainted the front bumper, but refuse to touch the back, suggesting I "take it to a body shop". Honda has a big problem here. They're supposed to be so great with customer service, but this is nothing but a nightmare.

I had the exact same issue with my 2002 Honda. Using the pressure washer at the car wash and all of a sudden a good chunk (about an inch in diameter) of the paint on the bumper peeled off. I'm leaving it.

My 2002 Accord had a leaf-sized patch of paint on the front fender peeled off immediately after a routine automatic car wash. Don't believe it was the car washes fault tho. Has anyone had anything similar happen? I'm thinking it was hardened bird droppings, and it ate thru and loosened the paint.

I had the same thing happen to me. I bought a 2002 V-6 Accord EX new and 3 months after I bought it I power washed it, only to have paint peel off the front bumper. I took it back to the dealership and they told me the same thing, that there was a flaw in the bumper and the paint didn't stick. They repainted the bumper (no cost to me) and it has been fine since. No where else on the car have I noticed any peeling paint.

My 1999 Honda Accord LX had a bumper repair after a front end collision and I had the same problem with peeling paint. The work was performed by a Honda authorized dealer and I thought it was just a poor paint job. It sounds as though there may be an inherent flaw in the material used to make their bumpers.
