1990 Honda Civic DX 1.5L

Summary:

Perfect for college kids!

Faults:

The car kept stalling out on me while I was driving, just random stalls here and there. It was very aggravating because I go to school and work also, as I put 360+ miles on it a week. Turned out to be distributor cap gone haywire. Just fixed, we will see what will happen.

General Comments:

Great gas mileage.

5 speed manual creates a "missile" effect.

Incredible city traffic capabilities.

Hatchback gives lots and lots of room.

Room in back for 3 adults to sit comfortably.

Lacks high end horsepower.

Overall, if this sucker runs at all, it runs well. Reliable car!

My 1990 Honda DX has a little over 178,000 miles on it and runs like a top. It still has the original clutch. I used to live in the Midwest, so it has some salt-related rust. I love this little car. It's not slick or ostentatious, but it gets me where I need to go with great gas mileage and easy parking. After nearly 14 years, it's still fun to drive.

1990 Honda Civic Si Hatchback 1.6L

Summary:

Fun, reliable and economical

Faults:

Replaced clutch at 90,000 miles.

Replaced radiator around 120,000 miles.

Replaced right door lock assembly at 140,000 miles.

Need to align the wheels every 5000 miles, otherwise tires are worn prematurely.

Driver seat is worn.

Clear coat on roof is pealing off, but this is a black car, and has been parked under the California sun for almost 13 years.

General Comments:

The car has been great ever since we got it. It is still as peppy as the day I bought it, and drives better than our 1997 civic. It made over 120 mph when new, and even though I used to rev it up frequently, the engine is still strong at 150,000 miles (I am more gentle to it now). It gets 33 MPG.

My 91 Civic now has 204,000 miles on it. It runs as smoothly as the day it was delivered and still has the original clutch, engine, et al. Replaced radiator twice and brakes a few times, but I'm hard on the car. Only way I baby it is with an oil change every 3mo/3k miles no matter what. Otherwise it's survived northeast winters with very few car washes and the inside is in perfect condition aside from a little wear on the outer driver's seat. (the dash on my 99 Volvo is already well-worn after only 33k miles!) I'm still randomly stopped by strangers asking to buy my car. I tell them I'm keeping it til it dies. You couldn't pry this car away from me.

I just purchased a 1990 Civic Si, and so far I love it... Unfortunately I have had to change the radiator out twice, but other than that I absolutely love it! At 150 thousand miles it's probably the best running car that I have owned, and still gets up on the high way. Surprisingly I only payed $800!!! I think I will be holding on to this one for a while...

Bought my 1990 civic SI slightly used in 1992 for $10000. For a now 18 year old car still in excellent running condition, I have no complaints and consider this an awesome investment. A tiny bit of rust starting on the panels near the wheels, and a minor power steering fluid leak. Not bad for driving in Canadian winters.

1990 Honda Civic DX 1.5L

Summary:

Perhaps the most reliable car on the road

Faults:

Headlight needed adjustment.

Air-conditioner hoses needed replacement -- apparently because the previous owner had an accident and did not bother to get them fixed.

Minor paint blemishes needed repainting.

But the later two problems came with the car. Otherwise, absolutely no repairs were needed.

General Comments:

I bought this car because I had driven the same model and year for some nine years on the West Coast. During that time I paid only for the routine servicing. I never had a single repair needed -- although the cassette tape recorder reverse started to malfunction occasionally after 8 years.

Frankly I cannot say enough in favor of this car. It gets 38 mpg, is (for me) comfortable and peppy. I am only selling it because I fell in love with a Mercedes. I hope I will not regret selling it.

Hey! I'm also a Honda owner.. Mine is 1991 4 door Civic.

A/C was working one day. The next thing you know, it started to blow warm air. The transmission started to die out on me on the highway. I purchased a Japanese transmission for 217.00 with only 45k on it, but I guess my mechanic did not know what he was doing. It worked for about 2 months, and now it won't get out of 1st gear and only moves on the flat. I had to put it on eBay.

Man, I really loved my Honda. Especially the sunroof in the summer.
