1990 Honda Civic EX 1.6L

Summary:

This car flies once modified

Faults:

The exhaust system was completely rusted, I needed a new catback exhaust complete with catalytic converter.

I've blown the head gasket, cracked the radiator, ripped the tread on 3 tires, 2 new thermostats and so far, 4 oil changes.

The fuel pump has blown, and the float on the gas tank stuck to the wall.

Body rust.

General Comments:

Despite all the problems, I have hooked up this car, and it is looking amazing now. With a little more body work, this car will look much better than the new Civic's on the road, as it already outperforms the new Si models.

Well how about this I have a 90 civic dx and it has about 330,000 on it with all the original parts besides the clutch and clutch kit which I have upgraded with McCleod parts the main thing is don't race your car, learn how to shift right because that's what will blow the head gaskets, keep up on the basic maintence, and baby the car so you don't have problems like this.

My lady has a 90EX and I wanted to know what all you did to yours? Would love to give that car the pep I know it's capable of.

1990 Honda Civic LX 1.5 liters

Summary:

A decent, ordinary, reliable vehicle

Faults:

It lacks take off power. I had to replace the front axle.

General Comments:

It's never left me stranded. The air-conditioner is ice cold. It's in good physical condition.

"Lacks take-off power". What? It's a 4 cylinder automatic. Nobody buys automatics in small cars expecting them to perform off the line. That's just a given.

1990 Honda Civic DX Hatchback

Faults:

CV boots failed after driving 6,000 miles in two weeks. Replaced timing belt at 60,000 miles per standard maintenance. Still on original clutch at 150,000 miles.

General Comments:

Very dependable and solid. Worth much more than its resale value, and it has held onto value very well at that.

I agree.

My car has taken a beating and at 145K is still running fine.

This is an amazing machine.

I bought my Honda Civic in April of this year. It had been thrashed when I bought it, and desperately needed maintenance. I put a new steering rack, inner and outer tie rods, upper and lower ball joints, alternator, battery, radiator, lower control arm bushings, new timing belt, alternator belt, rotors and rocker panels onto this vehicle. Apart from the rotors rocker panels, and lower control arm bushings, everything else was bought used from a breakers yard. The engine and gearbox was replaced prior to me buying the car for $500 Canadian. The car flew through its Inspection last month. I have just put 4,000 Kilometres onto this car since I had it. The car drives like a dream, its five speed gearbox makes it a little pocket rocket if you want it to be, and the gas mileage is second to a bicycle. I cannot say enough about this car. All in all with the repairs this car has cost a little more than $1200.00 to get onto the road. I should be able to sell it for around $1800.00. The car had a small windshield leak, but removal and re-fixture of the outer seal has totally cured the problem. Car corners like its on rails, and is plenty roomy for me being over six foot.
