1993 Honda Civic DX 1.5L

Summary:

Good car, but throw it away when it exceeds 150000 miles

Faults:

At 151000 miles the transmission only has park, neutral, and 2nd gear.

It will not shift out of 2nd.

I've had problems with the body easily rusting.

I replaced the alternator three times before I got a reliable one.

Does not brake well at high speeds, (becomes unstable)

General Comments:

Generally it is a good car that has been through hell.

It handles good and can be quite fast.

1993 Honda Civic LX 2.0

Summary:

A decent beginner car

Faults:

The alternator and starter went all at once last year.

The windows fog up in any weather besides summer sunshine, especially in rain or early morning dew.

Not sure what the reason is, but it "putts", almost feels like there is something blocking the fuel from fully flowing through.

Also the siding between the doors just fell off this summer.

General Comments:

It's a good car.

1993 Honda Civic CX 1.5 SOHC 70 hp

Summary:

Must be modified for performance, otherwise is a waste of great potential.

Faults:

Clutch is jerking in first gear. First problem I have had since buying the car. I am going to replace the CX motor with a 1.8 DOHC VTEC Integra Type R motor. Brake light bulbs keep blowing up.

General Comments:

This little hatchback may not be much in it's factory form, but here in the United States, it is the car of choice when it comes to import tuning and modifying. It has the BEST POTENTIAL to be a serious sports car when modified, the parts are easily found at any performance shop, and the best thing is most of it's parts are interchangeable with other model Honda's (or Acura here in the U.S.) from different years, newer or older. Another thing is the performance parts cost cheaper than the factory parts. A factory hood weighs about 30 pounds and costs about 600 dollars. A much better looking carbon fibre hood weighs about 5 pounds and costs about 300 dollars. Better performance for a lower price.

A sports car? Um, hello...it's a Civic... made for mileage... leave it be.

Surely if you intended to sport out your little Civic, would it not be best to purchase a Civic that is not the bottom or base model? This would save you lots of money with regards to uprating suspension parts. Also the bigger engine would be more potent when modified.

1993 Honda Civic CX 1.7 turbo

Summary:

Cheap, powerful, and worth the money

Faults:

Bought the car for 50 US dollars without the engine, oil seized the engine at 146222 miles.

General Comments:

Very nice car, goes 0-60 in 4.6 seconds.

With this engine I achieve 34MPG at any RPM.

The horsepower is great, 294HP, this car really sounds like a low RPM for 4 gears at 150MPH!

The interior is OK, not the best though compared to my Rover 825SL.

The car has very good handling, especially at high speeds.

What kind of engine did you put inside of it??

1993 Honda Civic DX hatchback 1.5 liter

Summary:

Great value economy car

Faults:

Replaced CV boots in 1997, the cost of which was covered by warranty.

Replaced muffler (rusted out) in 1998.

General Comments:

The car is an excellent economy car. Reliable, cheap to run and while far from a performance car, still fun to drive.

The car retained its resale value over the period of ownership. I bought the car for $11,000 CND new in 1993 and just sold it in March 2001 for $8,000 CND. Mind you, I did take very good care of it.

1993 Honda Civic

Summary:

Better to shop elsewhere

Faults:

Windshield and all windows constantly fog up, especially in wet weather. I have to keep the defroster and the air conditioner on at all times to minimize my problem. At times, this doesn't even help! I know three other people with Honda Civics and all of them have this same problem, so I know it's not just me.

General Comments:

I would never in a million years buy any other car made by Honda.

I have owned a 93 Honda Civic EX for about a year and I have not had any problems with my car in any way. The comment you made about the fogging, I feel that it is unreasonable to say that you would not buy another car that is made by Honda. I have made many modifications to my car in order to make it faster and I have not had any problems thus far. I like Hondas and I feel they are good cars for the amount of money they cost.

1993 Honda Civic EX 1.6

Faults:

Zero, zilch, nada, zippo, nothing!

General Comments:

My ONLY beef with this car is that there's no alarm or other warning to tell me I've left my keys in the ignition (which I've done more than a couple of times).
