1994 Honda Civic LX 1.5L
Summary:
Fun to drive, reliable, isn't that the point?
Faults:
Radiator went around 117500 miles.
The lights on the heat/ac controls went out.
The muffler rusted off.
General Comments:
This car is a bullet on wheels, it can take a serious beating and still deliver. I got the car, and a few hundred miles after, while going slightly too fast on a dirt road, I went off the road, plowing over 2 wood fence poles and catching a bit of air. Amazingly the front bumper was still in one piece and only pushed out the corners on the sides of the car, which is easily fixed with 2 screws. After getting a tow out, I drove around and realized that everything was great still.
Radiator went and the heat gauge got well past the H before I got home (close enough and it was 2am so). Had to go buy a new one and hope that nothing was wrong, cause it got real real hot. So we slide in a new radiator, hook it up and it works fantastic still. It runs just as good as it did the day I got it.
Muffler rusted out on the pipe, age related fixed easily should hold till I need a whole new pipe.
Overall this is a fantastic car, no issues that aren't expected of a 14 year old car really. Hopes are to run this through college until I can afford a new car, and there's no reason it can't happen.
It drives fantastic through corners, brakes are pretty good, acceleration is acceptable depending on what you're trying to do; it loves everything but uphill is my rule of thumb.
Great little car though, no complaints other than it requires gas to go, thankfully it's great on that too.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

It's funny you should mention how the car would hold up in a crash because I actually owned a 94 Civic LX sedan in which I subsequently had an accident. I was T-boned by a full size Chevy pickup doing what looked to be about 20-30mph when he hit me. It dented the passenger side door and some of the front fender and messed up the front suspension on the passenger side. I was unhurt and the car was totaled. The passenger compartment held up admirably well. Prior to the accident, the only complaint I would have had was that the car was a bit of a go-cart with all the good and bad that go with it. It handled well (with gas charged shocks-an option in those days) but was a bit rough on broken pavement and a little noisy. So anyway I don't think that the Civic deserved some of the criticisms here on this review. But I can understand if someone felt a little insecure in a small, light, low-slung compact. FYI: my Civic was only 2 years old when it was totaled so if some issues cropped up later for the typical Civic owner, I was unaware of them. Also my experience may not be typical of all people who have had an accident in one of these cars.
