2001 Honda Civic LX

Summary:

Very costly to have serviced

Faults:

The transmission.

The front struts.

General Comments:

Transmission started to be a problem at about 50 thousand miles. Honda service said to flush the transmission. This made the problem worse..

Have the same problems at 50,000, but mine is an EX also from North America. Struts are leaking and transmission just gave out today.

Very disappointed in Honda.

I also had a 2001 Honda Civic which had transmission problems. I dropped the first transmission around 40,000 miles and had it replaced. The second transmission dropped at about 98,000 miles.

Also my back right window regulator was going bad when I got rid of the car.

2001 Honda Civic LX

Summary:

A good car for the money

Faults:

At around 27,000, when I got the car inspected, I was told that BOTH the tires and brakes would need replacing within a few months. This seemed a bit early.

There was also an unexplained gurgling noise when I was braking for a few months. It mysteriously stopped one day. Not sure what the heck that was from!

General Comments:

Overall, I really haven't had any problems with the car. It's reliable and easy to handle. However, I do notice that sometimes when making turns, the wheels seem like they're not quite gripping the road.

I have a 2003 Honda Civic. I also had a strange gurgling noise while braking. I took it to the dealership and they informed me that the parking brake had not been completely disengaged and had caused premature wear on the brake drums. In fact, my car only has 15,000 miles on it and the coating paint they spray on the drums was completely gone and resembled a brake drum with several thousand miles more wear and tear. I don't know if this is a design problem, but this is the second time I have had it in for this same problem and will be vigile about further problems.

Summary:

A reliable lemon

Faults:

Things are so troublesome with this car that I felt it was my duty to update my previous complaint with this one. Started having continuous problems with "check engine" light at 63,000 k.m. Extremely intermittent air conditioner problems (dealer was unable to duplicate and took 3 months and 3 visits to fix) occurred at 102,000 k.m. Cable that allows you to control opening of gas tank broke at 103,000 k.m. (prevented me from refueling car). Alternator failed at 105,000 k.m. Both front struts failed at 144,000 k.m. Air conditioner started having problems again at 160,000 k.m. I have spent over $2400.00 in non-scheduled repairs on this car in the last 60,000 k.m! This car is very unreliable and I would definitely not buy another Honda due to their uncooperative attitude! FYI. Any body having problems with Honda when car is out of warranty should contact "c.a.m.v.a.p." vehicle arbitration (Canada only) at 1-800-207-0685 and file your complaint - It has worked wonders for me recovering a substantial amount of money spent on repairs!

General Comments:

The only good thing I can say about this car is that it is "extremely" fuel efficient. However, this car is a BIG regret and really hate this car! I have never owned any make of car that has been as unreliable as this car has been! Anybody looking for a good quality car should look at Toyota Corolla.

2001 Honda Civic LX

Summary:

Great vehicle with only minor issues

Faults:

Around 50,000 miles my back passenger door lock broke and 95% of the time does not unlock without a lot of extra effort.

There have been minor incidents here and there, as well as some recalls, but overall the car is in great shape.

General Comments:

My main reason for writing is to give my encounter with the gas mileage. Recently, at about 49,000 miles, I've been able to go to 400-450 miles per fill up. I've seen the performance increase over time and extent of usage. So if you have the car and the overall mileage is low then that could be a factor.

On the negative side, the car doesn't handle well in bad weather, i.e. rain or snow.
