2001 Honda Civic SiR Gasoline

Summary:

A great little city car

Faults:

Suspension bushings (front and rear) - Known issue with Honda, and they fixed it even though the car was out of warranty.

General Comments:

It's very reliable, especially if you keep up with regular maintenance.

Very good on gas.

The dealerships are always very helpful to diagnose any problems, and fix it promptly.

The trunk is huge for such a small car. I've been able to get so much stuff in it when moving or on long roadtrips, etc.

It's really easy on the wallet. It has always been a great car, and has only had the usual wear and tear.

2001 Honda Civic EX 1.7L vTech-e

Summary:

The definition of reliable

Faults:

Cigarette lighter went out (owner inflicted).

Check engine light stuck on (due to modification).

AC compressor clutch failed at 55,000 miles.

General Comments:

Great, worry free car. Picked it up with low mileage, and put this car through EVERYTHING.

Snow, rain, ice, hail, mountain driving, 1000 mile round trips, you name it, it didn't even faze this car. Oil changes were irregular, but always synthetic. Drove it reasonably for about the first 50,000 miles, then proceeded to flog it mercilessly until it was put out of commission at around 130k miles (not the car's fault).

Modified it slightly with cat-back exhaust, cold air intake, 17" wheels with low profile tires, and iridium plugs around 40k miles. Performance was good for what it was.

Was in 3 accidents, drove away from all three. Rear ended by 04 Mustang Cobra at 70k miles, spun into snowy ditch at 100k miles (drove out), and finally finished by a truck's bed full of fence parts emptying on the car at high speed, after which I drove it 10 miles home with fence post speared through the radiator. Only reason I don't still drive it is my insurance company deemed it totaled (only needed a new radiator to drive).

Never once took it to a garage for anything outside routine maintenance and cosmetic repairs (accidents). Zero mechanical repairs.

Sipped gas, I estimated between 35-40mpg on some trips (both pre and post modification).

Absolutely a blast to drive. Quick, responsive, and predictable in all driving conditions; was honestly much easier to manage than my AWD in heavy snow.

I wholeheartedly recommend this car to anyone looking for a fun, safe, worry-free commuter. You won't regret it.

2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7

Summary:

Dependable 9 year old Civic!

Faults:

I had to REALLY think back of what was wrong with my car. I haven't had much complaints about the car. It has been VERY reliable for me for the last 5 years!

Minor problems:

The window track was wearing out shortly after I bought the car, got it replaced.

Fabric on the headliner starting to come off, I had to keep them up and avoid rolling down the windows.

Other than that, nothing, really!

General Comments:

For the last 5 years, there hasn't been anything wrong with the car except for getting rearended 4 times! I have drove from Arkansas to Washington, DC for over 25 times in 4 years (Yes I'm a college student) and it has achieved to hit 536 miles on a tank from Tennessee to Washington, DC.

Not the fastest car, but I'm satisfied with it.

I plan on keeping this car for 20 more years! :)

2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7

Summary:

Honda's worst effort ever

Faults:

Cracked exhaust manifold.

Warped brake rotors.

All four struts.

Cracked air cleaner box.

Wobbly/loose driver's seat.

General Comments:

I bought a used Honda, expecting classic used Honda reliability. Boy was I in for a surprise. Compared to my previous BMW and Toyota, this car was HORRIBLE to work on. Soon after my purchase, I realized the exhaust manifold was cracked (a very common problem, and very expensive as it contains the catalyst as well), the struts needed replacing, the driver seat wobbled front to back and couldn't be repaired, etc, etc.

It handled like a canoe, bounced like a bullride over bumps, and was generally very uncomfortable.

The ONLY good this about this car was the great fuel economy: 6.4L/100km (37 mpg) mixed driving.

You really can't complain when you buy used... Even if it is a Honda (all my used Honda's have been great.) You have NO IDEA how the previous owner (or owners) treated it. It could have been horribly abused. This can be said for any used car you buy. Any make, any model, any year.

I wouldn't blame Honda, as it was a used car.

Many of the problems could have been discovered prior to purchase with a thorough test drive & mechanical inspection.

Blame Honda for what? This person doesn't state where they bought the car. Had it been at a certified Honda Dealer, then the car would have gotten an inspection. For all we know, this guy could've bought this Honda off somebody's front lawn.

Sorry, I meant to write "I wouldn't blame Honda"...
