2001 Honda Civic EX 1.7 SOHC

Summary:

Reliable, good performance for its engine size, cheap to maintain

Faults:

Suspension was replaced by the previous owner by Tokico HP Blues all around, the gas gauge (like most Civics for this year) is rather inaccurate, the windshield is scored with rocks and lines from the wiper blades (no idea why..), the headlights are pitted and should probably be replaced, other than that, nothing.

General Comments:

This car is great, bought it to replace my 1999 Toyota Corolla which I sadly destroyed in an ice storm :(

The handling is amazing, but the body rolls a little bit, (could easily fix with a strut bar)

For a 1.7L the acceleration is great, especially due to the manual transmission and lightweight of the vehicle, which is also why the vehicle gets such amazing fuel economy.

Interior has that 'sporty look' for the EX, but the black gets really hot in the summer.

I've had no problems with this car and it gets me to school and back without any issues, so to sum up, great, reliable little car.

2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7L

Summary:

Another defective first generation vehicle

Faults:

The transmission failed completely and without warning at 118,000 miles. This occurrence is a market-wide problem for 2001 Hondas. The company is doing little to relieve the $2000 cost to me to repair the problem that is arguably a manufacturing defect.

Cloth headliner in interior cab has detached from roof.

Headlamps fog easily.

Paint is prone to scratches and dents from minute sources.

General Comments:

Overall, the car has been reliable and cheap to maintain. The transmission, however, should have lasted at least until 150,000 miles.

2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7 4 cylinder

Summary:

Loving it

Faults:

This is "Silver Bullet" to be continued... From the beginning, on May 5, 2005, when I bought the car with 43,599 miles, it had three things wrong with it. Fuel related, power window, and dome light.

After that, nothing -- so far.

Just wish the door handles weren't black.

General Comments:

Could have needed a new engine if the engine blew up when I was driving from Tennessee to Colorado (about 24 hours), and on my way back to Tennessee, stopped in Arkansas at family's house and found my oil cap unplaced. Said I only lost 1/4 quart of oil. Of course, I wasn't happy about this, but Honda took care of it with a blink. So the engine was fine.

Got rearended twice, January 07, repaired then September 07, repaired.

Other than that, I continue to love this car! Added rear spoiler and tinted windows, so it does not look like "I borrowed my mother's car, so I can't stay long" -- it now has my personality, which I'm happy about.

OH! I also added a FACTORY keyless system. I was going to go for an aftermarket one, but the remotes looked so ugly, so I returned it and bought a system on eBay for $95 while Honda wanted $355. I asked Honda to install the system, they refused because I did not purchase the system from them. Screw 'em. So I got the installation direction from a website and did the installation myself... *light blinks* YEAH!! I did it!

2001 Honda Civic Si 1.7 Vtec

Summary:

Good, reliable transportation without ANY driving passion

Faults:

Driver's seat bushings wore out twice in 60,000 km

Part of driver's seat internal frame broke

All four struts were faulty.

General Comments:

Good seats, but the dash and console was sourced from Mattel

Great on gas, poor on passing power

WORST suspension! Rear end seems as if it's hinged to the front on bumpy roads, and jackhammers over imperfect pavement.

2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7L

Summary:

Slightly less reliable than a Civic should be

Faults:

Automatic transmission went at 95,000 miles.

Right strut went at 40,000 miles.

Left strut went at 95,000 miles.

Power locks went at 80,000 miles.

Water Pump went at 95,000 miles.

Breaks went at 40,000 miles.

Air Conditioning Temp sensor went at 90,000 miles.

General Comments:

It was an OK car, nothing more or less.

Suspension is pure junk, front and back.

It was not as reliable as I expected a Honda to be. And it has very little power, even with some after market modifications.

I could handle all of the problems except for the transmission going out at 95,000 miles. That really made me angry with Honda. Got a used one for 1500 bucks and it seems to be OK.

I would not buy one of these 01 Civics again. Maybe a newer one, but never this model type.
