2002 Honda Civic LX

Summary:

Definitely recommended!!!

Faults:

I had trouble starting the car after I had only had it for four days. I had trouble starting it periodically after that for the entire time I owned the car. It would usually happen 1 or 2 times per week and would happen at all times of the year. I would be interested to know if anyone else ever had this same problem?

The tires wore out early and I had to have one strut replaced.

Otherwise, the car was completely trouble free.

General Comments:

So far this is the best car I have owned. I had an accident that totaled the car, but I definitely plan to buy another Civic to replace it.

2002 Honda Civic

Summary:

Tremendously reliable if you take care of it. But not terribly luxurious

Faults:

Front passenger side window wiring shorted out.

Front passenger arm controller developed a crack after a hard bump on a pothole on the highway.

Windshield washer fluid light stuck on.

Front mats get wet due to leaky seals on the front near the windshield.

Wind noise has gotten noticeably louder over time.

General Comments:

Purchased the car brand new and took care of it from the get go. It has been incredibly reliable.

The car does not have very much power, but its gas mileage is quite good.

The back passenger seats have poor head rests in my opinion. There ARE cushions there for your head, but it is not full head support. Good for kids, not so great for adults.

We had the right side wiring harness short out, and some of the wires melted together. Had to replace the entire harness to get the windows to go up and down again.

The sound system is sub-par, the bass rattles, and there isn't very much range. It does the job, but aftermarket speakers would be an enormous improvement.

Maintenance wise, this car has been rock solid. Almost nothing serious has ever gone wrong. All the repairs we have ever done have been normal, maintenance repairs such as replacing spark plugs, timing belt, fluids etc. We got the extended warranty, and so far have not really had to use it except for the wiring harness.

2002 Honda Civic Si 1.7 litre

Summary:

Good car, but not what I expected

Faults:

My dash lights randomly flicker on and off, and my km reading goes to 888888, as well the speedometer. Also, the rpm gauge doesn't always work.

Transmission shifts very roughly into 2nd gear. I'm hoping I just need to change the oil and filter; otherwise, my guess is the clutch pack is already worn out.

General Comments:

Overall it's a good car, but from what I kept hearing about Honda, I was disappointed in the quality and reliability of the Civic. I really prefer my previous domestic vehicles over this Civic. (Jimmy, Grand Prix).

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I only felt the need to comment on this because sometimes people read these things and take them at face value.

Firstly you bought the vehicle with roughly 100k + miles on it, that unfortunately means that it could not have been a certified used Honda because they only certify their work up to 80k miles when they sell used vehicles. To make it very simple you bought it and the previous owner may not have taken any kind of care of the vehicle at all. You may have wanted to buy a certified used Honda because I know for a fact that when they go through the cert. process they make sure that stuff like that is not going on with your car.

So short version is that you bought a 7 year old car and it shows because the guy that owned it before you probably ragged it out.

Last thing, oil and filter has nothing<<<>>> to do with the way your car shifts from 1st to 2nd, or for that matter any shifting at all.. ever.

Well that may be true, I don't know how the previous owner drove it, now as far as oil and filter don't matter, are you kidding me? If your filter is clogged, it will shift harder into different gears as my transmission is an automatic, therefore it will take longer for the transmission fluid to reach the pistons which actuate the clutch pack.

This being said, I just found out that the tranny does not have a filter, therefore my transmission is due for a rebuild soon more than likely. The only other option would be if the transmission was a powershift style, which is a manual geared transmission with an automatic actuator on top of it, which automatically shifts the shift collars. Also my SRS light is on now.

I agree on it’s not quite fair or reasonable to complain too much on a car bought with 140k miles. But I disagree with an oil change being not related to how a car shifts. I have driven manual cars for a while and I notice a change in better performance in how the car shifts (sometimes much better) if I was late on an oil change.
