2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe 1.8
Summary:
Best handling car I've driven in 15-years (really)
Faults:
Nothing significant for this class of vehicle.
General Comments:
Great car so far...
OK... at first, I didn't particularly care for the looks of the car... but then I test drove one... WOW! This car makes everything else feel as though you're trying to control a drunk baby elephant, (not to mention everything else looks like a dinosaur... and whenever I get in someone else's car now... I feel like the windshield is dangerously close to my face ;-)
Seriously... I drive about 100-miles daily, and nothing else (gas only) comes close to this car in fuel economy (that's considered safe to drive). Does it handle like the S60, or before that, the 850GT?... matter-of-fact, it handles MUCH better than either of those cars (really). Funny thing too... last time I checked, mpg was right at 41.07 mpg!!
Fuel economy being my paramount concern... buying this car was a no-brainer (given the handling too... and added plus). Sure it's not as quiet as the Volvo or BMW (only slightly noisier than the BMW), but hey, I'm saving $300. monthly in gas. So I can live with the noise (changing tires to Michelins reduced noise about 40-50%... but still not as quiet as a Volvo... Swedes do an excellent job of isolating driver from the outside world... not necessarily a good thing really)..
Never owned a Japanese vehicle before... but so far I'm impressed... Just hope to experience some of that long-term Honda quality. So far, I don't have any reason to think that I won't.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I'm not too surprised by the mileage he's getting. I own an '08 Civic and I've gotten as much as 48 MPG on the highway. I usually average about 43 MPG highway, about 36 MPG in the city, and about 39 MPG with mixed city/highway driving. I drive very frugally though, 60 MPH is about the fastest I go on the highway.

I agree with your points. The thing that really surprises me about the 2006 Civic EX is the gas mileage. 40 on the highway, 30 in the city. In the winter, 20 in the city. It’s much higher than I expected.
