Faults:

The radiator needed to be replaced at 150,000 miles.

The A/C condenser was replaced at the same time.

The rear sway bar ends were replaced at the same time.

Clock is known to go bad, replaced with a used unit.

General Comments:

This car is AWD and is very good in the snow. I put winter tires on, and my 19 year old daughter was able to navigate quite well, despite her inexperience. It even went better than a Chevy pickup 4x4 up a steep rough driveway.

The ride is quite a bit softer than my RAV4, and the acceleration just blows the Toyota away. I average 22 MPG with mostly highway miles. The RAV4 averages 25 MPG with the same roads driven.

It just feels more solidly built than the RAV4, and is a lot quieter inside.

The parts that were replaced are common with the vehicle's age and mileage.

It should last another 100k with proper maintenance, judging by the evidence of how many are still going and for sale with over 250k.

Faults:

Radiator cracked and leaked at the cap at 140,000km.

Power window motor and LED bulbs for the instrument cluster failed at 160,000km.

General Comments:

It's a very reliable car, never ever has it failed me, and it has always kept me and my loved ones safe and sound.

The acceleration is decent, don't expect too much, but if you really gas it, you'll surely be able to beat most cars at the light with it.

Has a bit of trouble achieving high speeds, but again it's a 4 cylinder engine, so you shouldn't be going too much over 100km/h anyways.

Nice interior, comfortable seats with an arm rest for all passengers.

Quality sound system using Pioneer branded speakers.

Fun to drive, steering is responsive in most situations.

Real-time 4WD system is sluggish, usually activates too late, but is better than nothing.

Cabin noise is rampant throughout all Honda CRV models; newer or older, they have all the same issues.

Small touches make a difference; hidden picnic table, under seat storage, leather wrapped steering wheel with perforated holes, the dash is made of mostly foamy leather material, not completely hard plastic.

What snow? This car plows through it like it doesn't even exist, however I suggest that you retrofit an ABS shut off switch; the ABS sensor is too sensitive, and in the first 5 years of owning this car, I've had so many near accidents. I do give it so much room for stopping, but the ABS just keeps the car from applying any brake force, so I retrofitted a switch to shut it off when driving in snow, and the car drives beautifully. Stops with full power and starts without slipping.

I've had this car for 11-12 years now, and it's been great. Looking forward to another decade with this car.

Faults:

Keep in mind, I bought this car used:

* Timing belt and brakes at 89,000 miles.

* Valve adjustment at 110,000 miles.

* CEL light on.

* Driver's side power door lock actuator needs replacing (causes unreliable power lock performance).

* Driver's side power window is a little rough when closing in the rain.

* Oil pan needed replacing at around 75,000, due to corrosion.

* Oil pan bolts needed tightening and Loctiting due to some seepage.

* Radiator needed to be replaced at 105,000 miles (due to core separation from end caps).

General Comments:

Reliable if properly maintained.

Excellent snow/poor weather performance.

25mpg.

Great visibility, and very roomy for a small SUV.

Versatile interior - fold flat seats - great for hauling stuff.

Fun to drive.

The most important thing to remember on this car is to adjust the valves (intake and exhaust) frequently (every 15 to 30k). If you do not adjust the valves to spec, the exhaust valves will tighten, elevating head temperatures. The first sign you will experience is that you will begin to use oil as high valve temps will vaporize oil. Other signs include oscillating idle speeds with the AC on.

If you find a CRV that has rough idle regardless of AC, or weak/sluggish acceleration, then avoid the car, as it probably has a burned valve or worse.
