2001 Honda CR-V

Summary:

Nice, cute utility vehicle

Faults:

Radiator started leaking as soon as I got it. Got a new radiator and replaced it myself. It wasn't leaking much, but better to be safe than sorry.

Brake pads were in bad condition when I got it; got new ones and replaced them myself. Braking was fine, but they were making annoying sounds.

The engine layout is very easy to work on. That's all I have done to it.

General Comments:

When I first got the CR-V, I had doubts, but I needed a bigger car, so I bought it cheap from a friend. I have the LX FWD model; where I live I don't need the AWD. I get about 26 MPG on the highway and 23 city.

The CR-V handles like a car, a high car. It is very roomy inside and comfortable for short distances. I took a 1500 miles trip with it, and I realized how bad the seats are for traveling. Also road noise is a bit high. I don't think the car is underpowered, however when going uphill, the CR-V struggles.

Overall it's a good vehicle, perfect for a small family or a student. It is roomy, reliable, and versatile.

Update!!!

I wrote the review and I wanted to update you potential CR-V owners. I now have 147,000 miles on my CR-V and nothing has gone wrong.

I have noticed that when I don't use Honda oil or a Honda filter, the engine becomes a bit more noisy. So stay with Honda parts and liquids.

If you want a spacious compact SUV, this is the one for you. But beware, although it is quite tossable for an SUV, at the end of the day it's not that fun. However since it is a Honda, it has a high resale value. I can still get what I paid; maybe more. You can always sell it if you get bored and buy yourself a little Miata or something.

2001 Honda CR-V EX 2.0

Summary:

Awesome SUV

Faults:

This little SUV has been great. I bought it new with 3 miles on it. It now has 167000 miles, and is still running like a champ.

I think it has enough power to climb hills, and also get on the interstates. It's very zippy, and also not so thirsty like the big SUVs. I average 30 mpg on the highway, 28 city; can't beat that.

I also been through some nasty snowstorms, and never got stuck in any kind of weather. It gives you piece of mind to know it won't leave me stranded in a blizzard. Never has and never will.

So glad to own such a great 2001 CRV in these hard economic times. It's a great comfortable ride.

General Comments:

Nothing, just your scheduled maintenance, oil changes etc. Very comfortable and roomy, and great gas mileage.

I agree with your comments above. I'm glad I have a CRV too. It's fun to drive and gets me through some nasty weather safely.

I love my 2001 Honda CRV. I purchased it in 2007 with 78000 miles on... now I have 189000 miles and it runs like a champ. Also gets me through some nasty weather here in New York. It's been very reliable too. Just your normal oil changes. I'm so glad I own this. Also it's very good on gas.

It is great to have a good 2001 CRV in winter. I'm never stuck, and it gets me from point A to B safely ALL THE TIME. I'VE OWNED THIS SINCE 2001.
