2001 Honda CR-V LX 2.0L VTEC DOHC
Summary:
Reliable, safe, inexpensive to maintain, however underpowered
Faults:
Aftermarket Sony stereo system does not work. I bought the car with it broken.
Door handle in the trunk is broken, so I have to use the rear window to get things in and out (thank god this car has this feature).
A lot of wind noises in this car, and since the radio does not work, I am subjected to listen to some of the weirdest sounds.
When on the highway, and trying to overtake and pass another car, sometimes the car takes forever to switch to the 4th gear.
I also hate the fact that the car stays on the third gear at 110 KM/H with the tacometer at 3000 rpm. The car should shift to the 4th gear and give RPM's of 2700. The tranny in this car is decent, but is nothing like my 2001 Accord.
How come there are lights on the dash of the car saying a door is open; that's not a good feature if you have kids.
Driver leg-room is not that great, and I am only 5 foot 9, so I can imagine how much it would bother you if you were over 6 feet.
General Comments:
Based on what you are reading about the problems of my 2001 CRV, you're wondering, wow, the CRV is a piece of crap. However actually it's not, it's perfect for people who cruise on the highways at speeds of 110 KM/H and don't accelerate really fast.
Overall the car is magnificent, the resale value is high, the AWD feature in the car is great, especially during snow-fall & rain-fall, it makes a huge difference compared to my Accord.
The car is obviously underpowered; however for the decent gas mileage and comfort it's not too bad.
I would recommend this car to people who are looking for something that is safe to drive and is reliable in most conditions. Also, the CRV is not to expensive to maintain, so there is no worrying about any crazy service bills (unless you got a lemon).
The under-powered issue really bothers me because I am use to driving an Accord, which a different car. However my dad loves the engine and transmission because he does not have a heavy foot on the gas.
As far as the tranny goes on this car, she will probably last longer then my Accord, but it sometimes gets annoying when trying to get her to the 4th gear. The wind noise will bother you sometimes, but hey why are you complaining about a daily commuter car.
Asama Omarkhail.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
