1987 Honda CRX Si 1.5L PGM-FI

Faults:

I had very few problems with the car despite the abuse it received. No major mechanical failures only nik-nak and general maintenance problems.

Car was nearly perfect when I bought it-A steal for $3100.

Minor problems:

Rear cyclops light cover constantly came loose and hung down.

Lights behind climate controls always fizzled out.

Wiring harness connecting body and rear hatch broke disabling rear defrost and wiper.

Began to rust on the rear quarter panels above the bumper.

Oxygen sensor was ready for replacement at 125,000 miles.

Moon roof needed to constantly greased and helped closed by your hand to seat properly.

More extensive repairs:

Both front CV boots needed to be replaced.

Was showing signs of leaky head gasket near our departure (oil in the coolant).

Clutch was ready as well.

General Comments:

This "go-kart" of a car was a quick little devil! I was young when I owned it so it saw a lot of street races, drifting, and e-brake donuts.

When I got into the car and turned the key, it was there every time-no hesitation.

Removed the snoot from the airbox and it ran even better.

No lie-the fuel economy was excellent: 28/48 miles. per gal. avg. despite my driving habits.

The most astonishing thing was that it held its value. Luckily it was an accident victim so insurance paid me back and I kept it and sold it to someone who wanted to race it for fun. The moral is I got my $3100 back.

Honestly this car is what brought me to Honda and it is the one that made me go back. The reliability, the horsepower/torque curve of Honda power, and the forethought of the engineering defines this company's products.

1987 Honda CRX Si 1.5 L

Summary:

A good economy car

Faults:

The clutch is the only thing that is gone and I need another from all the burns that I do and some new tires.

General Comments:

I love my car, the only thing I would trade it for is a 1999-2000 Civic Si, that would be it.

Why is it a death trap? Does anyone know what year is the safest model, because my mom will only buy me one that is the safest year.

My e-mail is Bradlypo@hotmail.net, thank you for your time.

1987 Honda CRX Si 1.5 4-cylinder

Faults:

Transmission pops out of all gears (5-speed).

General Comments:

Cheap, cheap, cheap. My wife was rear-ended by a '90 Ford Taurus sedan at 20 mph & knocked her into the ditch. Had her seat belt on & broke her leg. It was totalled. No room for protection & too light. Death-trap - smallest car I know of.

I have over 300,000 miles on my Si, It runs like new still. I have a small oil leak from the oil pan that causes me to add a quart every 2000 miles. I hit a DEER (YES A DEER!!!) at 70MPH and the only damage was DEER FUR under the trim on the right front fender and door!!! This is the best car ever built BAR NONE!!!. Goes forever on a tank of gas and can still smoke most cars today in the 1/4 mile and/or the highway!

It's a street legal go-kart, but still fun I would buy another one for twice the price.

Own an 86 HF - 120k - in perfect condition. Completely agree with your evaluation - Have never had a sweeter, more enjoyable car. Radiator needs replacing due to starting to run hotter than usual.
