1990 Honda CRX Si 1.6L

Summary:

The best bang for your buck!

Faults:

Nothing as of yet, but I only bought it yesterday!

The clutch is going, but not quite gone yet.

The seats have a few rips and tears in them, but nothing a couple of nice seat covers couldn't handle.

There are only a few modifications that need to be done, but they will be perfect for a little cheap project car for me to work on.

General Comments:

I love the Honda Civic CRX, it handles great, gets great fuel mileage, and best of all, it looks outstanding!

The car is so quick it literally feels like I'm in a rocket off the line, however, it has impressed me with its braking, especially at high speeds.

1990 Honda CRX Si 1.6

Summary:

Ultimate combination of economy and performance = FUN (relatively safe, also)

Faults:

Not a thing, even though I later found that the mileage had been turned back before my purchase.

General Comments:

I owned my 1990 CRX Si for around two years before I totalled it... I will never forget that car.

It's a shame that Honda felt compelled to replace the CRX with the Del Sol, which is (was) quite a sub-standard replacement. The CRX was (and possibly is) the ultimate combination of fun driving and economy... I currently own a slightly modified 1998 Civic EX which is also fun to drive, but I quite honestly miss getting 40+ highway MPG in a machine that could almost be classified as a "sports car".

Not to mention safety: I know that the CRX has developed a bad reputation in some circles as not being the safest vehicle in the world. Granted it may not be up to par with some of today's vehicles, but I had a personal experience that says the CRX is no safety slouch. I mistakenly turned in front of a FULL-SIZE DODGE RAM PICKUP which was traveling at 30 MPH or so; the latter resulted in an almost head on collision (10 degrees or so to the right). The car was obliterated up to the windshield, but I escaped with nothing more than lack of wind, bruised/scraped knees, and bruised chest (although my dog did end up with a fractured leg, since she wasn't wearing a seat belt).

If I can find someone willing to turn one loose, I'll probably end up buying another in the future.

Sorry about your dog. I also have a crx-si, it's an 88 and I love it. It's so fast on the go. I have a bunch of mods done to it now and soon ill be putting the b16 V-tech in it. Anytime I think about buying another car it always ends up being a crx. Their just great cars all around. Well... not the rust on the rear panels, but I'm use to it.

I have had my Si since I bought it new in '90 and have had no real problems other than wear and tear replacements and after 225,000 miles/original engine still purrs... benefits of regular tune ups!

It's an old car but it still handles effortlessly is still very fun to drive. I need to get another car though because I would like to give Yabu a rest now.

1990 Honda CRX HF 1.5L

Summary:

Excellent Mileage and Reliability. Will not die!

Faults:

Clutch, master bearing needed replacing at 125,000 miles.

Has lived most of it's life in New England, and is showing a fair amount of rust.

Alternator, brakes, tires replaced; though not more often than any other car I've owned.

General Comments:

This car has been a pleasure to own. Although it has only 2 seats, it has quite a bit of cargo space for it's size. It'll fit an 8' beam inside (though not so easily with a passenger!), and I even managed to fit my good-sized recliner inside it and close the hatch.

It gets great mileage which varies widely with temperature and tire quality. The mileage sways 40 to 50 MPG over temperature (20 degrees F to 90 degrees F) and about 5 MPG depending on the tire rolling resistance. The best I've achieved is 52 MPG, octane grade does not seem to affect mileage.

It's great in the snow, and handles pretty well. This car is NOT fast. It's light, but also has only 60-something horsepower, making it quite sluggish.

Rust is a problem if you are in an area with snow/salt.

I'm rolling over 200,000 miles this week, and I torture it in general. The car just won't die- maybe in the next 100k miles...

1990 Honda CRX SI 1.6 SOHC 16 Valve

Summary:

Keep it cause there's no other car like it!!!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is a real toy. Very cool to drive. Very fast in cornering. Even though this car is 10 years old now it's very easy to find performance part. Lowering the car is a great idea. The car is a little bit too high when you got it stock.

Doesn't take too much fuel too (if you're not driving too fast! ;-)).

1990 Honda CRX DX 1.5L

Summary:

Excellent sporty car, with super reliability

Faults:

Distributor cap went out, and cost $100 to fix (including labor).

General Comments:

This an excellent car if you're looking for a reliable, somewhat sporty car. I still get roughly 35-38 MPG and the car takes off nicely from stoplights.

I bought the car with a salvaged title in 1995 for $4500, and even being salvaged I've maybe put a total of $300 work into the car not counting regular maintenance (ie: brakes, tune up) and oil changes. I HIGHLY recommend this car to anyone.

1990 Honda CRX Si 1.6 liter SOHC 16v MPFI

Summary:

Economical blast to drive

Faults:

Other than regular maintenance, I've had to replace the clutch, CV joint, and brake caliper. I've done many other things, but they were all performance related.

General Comments:

Great car! Name one other car that can get close to 40mpg and be as fun to drive as this is! The stock suspension and light weight of this car makes it so nimble. Some call it a death trap, but that's only if you get into an accident. It stops faster and handles better to help keep you out of accidents.
