1993 Honda del Sol Si 1.6 liter SOHC Vtech

Summary:

Very advanced car for the price

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong was that I blew my head gasket when I put the nitrous to it.

General Comments:

The seats are very comfortable.

Very fast and has great handling.

Reminds me of my Porsche that I still have.

Wish I could find another del Sol.

1993 Honda del Sol Si 1.6

Summary:

If maintained, the only car needed!

Faults:

Well since I got this car Nov. 02 from a dealer that was not sure of its past, I was concerned about the car's condition.

My first oil change proved to me that the car had some engine problems that needed to be fixed before anymore driving went on. I have since then had to rebuild the motor from the ground up.

I had to resize the rods and crank, being that whoever had it before me didn't maintain oil changes on the car. I also put new gaskets, rings, bearings, alternator and TLC into my engine. The manifold was cracked (which was possibly part of the problem) so I replaced that with headers. After this $1,300 and 3 month rebuild process, I got my car running like a kitten again. Only to drive it 300 miles and find that the transmission needs repairing now (new 4th and 5th gears, synchronizers, + much more).

I am not sure yet what this is going to cost me, but it is well worth it in my eyes!

General Comments:

Even though I don't really have the money for my cars repairs, and my visa card is well worn out, I have never seen a well maintained Honda not want to run. My last 92 Prelude had 190,000 miles when I got it and for the 7 months I had her, she ran like a tiger. Always wanting to go and never causing me any problems, besides a oil pan leak which was caused by my suburban driving and the car's height.

I shouldn't have many, if any problems with this Del Sol as soon as I get the transmission back from the shop.

I also have a friend that has a Del Sol, and even though the lady that had the car before him didn't TLC it like she should have, it is the perfect example of a Honda Race Machine still wanting to tear up the streets.

1993 Honda del Sol Si 1.6 SOHC VTEC

Summary:

Excellent open top pleasure machine

Faults:

The only issues that I have had with my car would be the leaking driver's side window. This is not a huge problem, considering the car's age.

General Comments:

Power is surprisingly peppy from the 1.6 Liter engine. Although it's rated at 125 horsepower, you'd think it had more power.

Fuel consumption is thrifty, but fuel consumption got better for the later models with more technology.

Handling is top notch. With 14 inch tiny tires, you'd be surprised how high the cornering limits of the Si are.

1993 Honda del Sol

Summary:

This car revives my spirit to drive on!

Faults:

No major problems.

Brake lights were burnt out when purchased.

Torn drivers seat.

Steering wheel cover worn out.

Other than a few minor things... this car was a steal!

General Comments:

I honestly have wanted to own a del Sol since I was younger. Now that I have it, I am going to fix it up and create a monster.

1993 Honda del Sol Si 1.6 SOHC I-4

Summary:

A fun two-seater that you can afford

Faults:

No major problems (hey, it's a Honda!).

Slight water leak over the driver's side door when it rains really hard.

General Comments:

The most fun you can have on the road! The removable top is the coolest thing ever (and gets lots of looks!)

Not a massive amount of get up and go, but the VTEC does make a difference when it kicks in at about 4000 rpm. Mostly it has potential if you are an import tuner like me.

The interior is really nice, especially the bucket seats.

The controls are simple and make sense (no clutter).

You won't be able to haul a crowd of people, but it's so fun it's worth it.

And if nothing else; like I said before, it's a Honda!
