1993 Honda del Sol Si 1.6

Summary:

A sleek looker and performer with a not so sleek price

Faults:

Targa top rattles easily.

Not much get up and go power.

General Comments:

The car I own has lots of miles, yet performs above average considering.

I get at least 30 mpg.

Runs forever--I'm at 204k miles.

Above average resale value.

Is fairly quick and takes turns well.

Fun removable top.

1993 Honda del Sol Si 1.6

Summary:

A fun car that holds true to Honda's legendary reliability!

Faults:

Minor body flaws from previous owner. Included cracked front bumper and torn and water-stained seats. Also missing minor interior trim pieces.

Third gear also made a grinding noise if you shifted into it over 2,000 RPM.

General Comments:

All in all, the car was in decent shape for its high mileage. I saw no evidence of leaking roof seals, and the engine ran like a champ. It's a fun car to drive, and the removable roof just adds to the fun. Since it's so short, parking is a cinch, and it feels like you're pivoting when you make slow speed sharp turns. It's roomy trunk makes it reasonably practical, even for a two-seater.

1993 Honda del Sol S 1.5

Summary:

I great project car for any import fan; a great 1st car for anyone; an economical sports car.

Faults:

I had to replace the alternator after having it for about one month.

No other issues I have had with this car could be blamed on the car itself. The previous owner raced it and did several modifications. All repairs I've done were based on fixing damage on a car that was driven like someone stole it.

General Comments:

I love this vehicle. I wrecked my Saturn and I wanted another Honda pretty bad. I found this bright yellow del Sol with a Buddy Club kit, coil overs, and dual exhaust for $2500. The odometer is messed up so the mileage is unknown, but who cares? What a deal! I put on some 16 inch Enkie Rims with Kumho tires, put in some Kenwood speakers with matching CD, fixed up the enterior a little, and now people are offering up to $5500 for this thing. I am completely satisfied and plan on holding on to this baby for a long time. I even named her Solvi. The girls love this car. Cruising with the top down on warm summer nights in Texas is an absolute dream. I only wish it was faster. With the body modifications these silly racers are always pulling up next to me and wanting to compete for speed. They'll just have to wait until I drop in that LS motor.

The cab is roomy. Plenty of trunk space. I wish it came with factory rear speakers, but it does not. The seats in this thing are super sporty. It handles wonderfully and if you lower it you feel like you're one with the road.

I have a 93' Del sol also, it did come with factory rear speakers. They were 5 and 1/2 inch behind the seats in the corners right below the window.

Dear Original Poster and Follow-Up Poster.

I think that the Follow-Up Poster is correct regarding the speakers. It seems that my 1993 del sol 1.5 liter has a pair of front door speakers towards the front of the two doors and another pair just at the back and to the right behind each door.

Svelte Bat (name of my del sol)

1993 Honda del Sol Si 1.5L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Sweet-looking bargain sports-car highly underrated...shouldn't have stopped production!

Faults:

The driver's seat is worn enough to warranty a stitch or two, (or seat covers)...but not too badly.

Replaced the timing belt per Honda recommendations.

The aluminum alloy wheel in the front became badly pitted, allowing air to escape... but was easily fixed.

General Comments:

Car is a 5-speed that handles very well in the terrain of Western Pennsylvania; excellent speed around turns and up hills.

Gas mileage is still about 30 miles to the gallon...city!

Seat belts can be difficult to reach, but I have no complaints.

Beautiful profile that just begs to be driven! A semi-classic look without becoming "retro."

Lots of leg-room/trunk space (once you're in the cockpit!
