2012 Honda Fit 1.6

Summary:

Bulletproof!

Faults:

Nothing but a couple of recalls, which were taken care of at no charge.

General Comments:

Amazing car for very little money! We bought our Fit new in 2012 for about $14k. In over 100,000 miles we have done nothing but routine maintenance. Overall fuel economy is 34.5 MPG - a combo of half city and half freeway miles.

This car is small on the outside so parking is a breeze, yet big on the inside. My 80lb rottweiler mix can ride comfortably in the cargo area.

Performance is adequate for everyday driving.

Comfort improved when I put a couple of gel cushions from Amazon on the front seats. I'm 6'2" and I'm reasonably comfortable on long drives.

My only complaint is that the air conditioning is too weak for Southern California heat.

Overall the little Fit has been a bullet proof vehicle with amazing low operating costs!

INCREDIBLE packaging efficiency.

If you don't fit (LOL) in this car, you won't fit in much.

The only demerit I can think of, is the lack of a coolant temperature gauge. But it does have a tachometer. This is a trend that has been gathering steam for a few years now.

Good vehicle otherwise.

2012 Honda Fit Base 1.5

Summary:

Second best car I've ever owned

Faults:

The only thing that I feel didn't last as long as it should have, is the tires. They were pretty well shot after 33000 miles. With a car this light, and my gas pedal foot equally as light, and almost all of the miles were highway, I feel that they should have lasted much longer.

Of course this isn't the fault of Honda Mfg. But it still bugs me.

Otherwise it has had no problems.

General Comments:

This car looks from the outside to be extremely small. But from the inside you don't feel it at all.

I'm about 5'9" and weigh in around 175. The seats are quite comfy, for a subcompact. I take my Fit on long trips all the time. The shortest being about 650 miles, the longest about 1500 miles, one way. I do get stiff, but I'm also in my mid 60s, which is what I blame my aches and pains on.

My average highway miles per gallon has been 40-42, depending on which way the wind is blowing. Mixed runs about 36-38, depending on whether I run the A/C or not.

2012 Honda Fit

Summary:

Excellent choice

Faults:

Nothing yet, but the car is brand new.

General Comments:

After much research, I settled on the Honda Fit Sport as my first new car since 2003. I've been sharing cars with my kids (1997 Corollas, amazing cars), and finally got to the point where I had to get a ride of my own.

I purchased the sport model, because it offered a lot more for the money than the base.

As I said, the car is brand new, so there is nothing much that I can tell you in terms of how the car has performed over a long period of time. However, I do want people to know that the 2012 is noticeably quieter than previous models. My sister has a 2009, and the noise level in the car bugged me. No issues here.

The car is fun to drive, very roomy, quick but not a race car, and is averaging around 27 MPG in mixed driving.

The paddle shifters are odd, but just because I am used to a stick and clutch. The car is an automatic, but I have played with the paddles. I honestly don't know if I will ever use them.

Last comment: I looked at every model in this class, and in my opinion the Fit is hands down the best buy in its class.

2012 Honda Fit Base 1.5

Summary:

Great car... so far

Faults:

I bought the car new, so nothing is wrong at this point.

General Comments:

The ride is more comfy than my Scion Xa. MUCH more rear storage as the rear seats fold flat.

It rides a little lower, so it's a little tougher to get in and out of.

And what's the deal with no center arm rests. Are the Japanese all missing a right arm or something? LOL! All kidding aside, I'm sure it's because they want you to BUY one. I bought a center arm rest for my Scion, and just took off the plate attached to the bottom of it, and it fits my Fit perfectly!

Please keep us informed on your new Honda Fit... the good and the bad. Honda sells about 50,000 of those Fits every year in the U.S., but we don't see too many reviews on them on Carsurvey with the exception of the 2007 model. The small car market segment is hot right now, and looks like it will get hotter as the gas prices move up to $4.00 a gallon again...
