1996 Honda Odyssey EX 2.2

Summary:

It's a UUT - Ultimate Utility Vehicle

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I loved the way it drove, the way it sounded, the way it handled, everything.

As far as I'm concerned, the first generation Honda Odyssey has no equal. No minivan made since has been able to top what it can do.

The engine had plenty of power, and it liked to rev just as much as any good Honda four-banger.

The interior was well-laid out and intuitive. The fold-flat rear seat was such a stroke of genius, that it took other manufacturers almost a decade to catch up.

It hauled whatever I needed, wherever it need to go, all while getting excellent mileage.

I'll be honest, I straight up abused this van. I took it off roading, hit things with it, got it stuck, didn't change the oil at regular intervals, just all-around drove the hell out of it. It never whimpered. It never even broke a sweat. These things are insanely durable.

1996 Honda Odyssey EX 2.2L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Honda is the best manufacturing company around

Faults:

Radiator hose busted at 158,000, cylinder 3 had a misfire (only a faulty spark plug), front and rear motor mount failed due to previous owner (he thought it was a race car).

General Comments:

The Honda Odyssey speaks for itself. These vehicles are amazing the way they run. I would recommend a Honda to anyone. The Odyssey is a great family van; little to no maintenance, cheap to fix almost anything.

1996 Honda Odyssey LX 2.2L

Summary:

An awesome car that still doesn't have an equal in the US

Faults:

Rear cargo area leaks in water from the rear wheel well.

SRS light came on around 150k, apparently a problem with the air bag system.

Cassette player no longer works.

General Comments:

It's true what they say, this is one of *those* cars that runs and drive great, and doesn't give you many problems. It seats 7 people in relative comfort, we routinely squeeze five car seats in.

Performance wise it does drive like an older Accord with good handling and control. If you load it up with people or cargo the engine does start to lag, the trade off for good mileage and its nimble feeling.

In a few years when my boys get bigger we'll need to get a larger van, which will be a sad day. My goal is to get 220k before I retire it.

The Japanese Odyssey is still based on the Accord, like this one. I think if they started importing it again, it would sell better this time around.

1996 Honda Odyssey 2.2

Summary:

It is unfortunate that Honda stopped manufacturing such a minivan

Faults:

Very minor things like the front tie rod.

General Comments:

For an 11 years old with such a high mileage, it is extremely reliable, comfortable, economical, and a small minivan, but with enough spaces and room.
