Faults:

The transmission was replaced by Honda under their recall at 74,000 miles, because of issues with shifting. Now at 42,000 miles later, the transmission has totally failed, leaving my wife and 3 children stranded on the interstate.

Honda says they will give me $800 off a new transmission, but the cost is still $2300 I don't have.

If Hondas are only good for 42,000 miles, this will be my last Honda vehicle. I suggest everyone go to the NHTSA complaint site and let them know about the danger to a family when a transmission fails on the interstate and power is lost. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

General Comments:

This would have been a good family vehicle, but I won't risk my wife and three small children being stranded on the highway again.

The auto sliding passenger side door continue to fail and alarm as well.

Faults:

Sliding side doors stick shut occasionally. Potential safety hazard.

General Comments:

Found that if you grab the top of the door with the fingertips of both hands and pull outward toward yourself, the seal will be broken and the door will then open normally. Keep the weather stripping treated with silicone spray and the runners greased with white lithium, and the problem should go away. Temperature changes and the resultant swelling of the weather stripping is to blame here; not electronics or software.

Faults:

My driver side sliding door stopped working on my 2001 Ody. I thought it was the motor, since it stopped making noise when the button was pushed. I found this site and read report after report about the fuse #13 fix, so at 11:20 at night I went out to the car, spent 5 minutes and voila, it works!

Now, to tackle the myriad of other electrical issues that are plaguing this van.

General Comments:

Loyal Honda buyer for years, this is the last Honda for us. Fit and finish atypical of past Hondas. It's been a decent van, but I expected better. My 14 yr old Volvo has had many fewer problems.

Faults:

EGR valve recall in 2004, got that replaced.

Check engine light came on 128,000. Honda replaced EGR valve again.

Check engine light came on and TCS light comes on. Honda diagnostic revealed the transmission is bad.

Gears seem to slip going from 1st to 2nd.

When idling, the van seems to sputter at times.

When putting van into reverse, seems to jump into gear.

General Comments:

Checked on Honda Dealer web site. Honda 1999-2001 is recalled on transmissions. I called Honda about this recall. I had never been contacted on a recall by mail.

I called Honda about because even though I have 129,000 miles, I feel that this is a manufacturer defect, and not my responsibility. I bought a Honda because of the "Reputation" I have heard about.

The customer service representative told me that there was nothing they could do. So basically I have a van that is worth nothing, and I don't feel it to be reliable to drive long distances. I am now scared to drive this van anywhere because it may break down at any moment.

Honda told me that it would cost around 4000.00-5000.00 to replace the transmission.

I will not buy another Honda.
