2005 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5

Summary:

Has been a great family hauler

Faults:

The idler pulley fell off; had to replace the power steering hose.

General Comments:

We bought ours new in 2005 and it has been reliable, comfortable, affordable. Not a dazzler, but very steady. We have taken many long mileage trips in it and everybody (5) is comfortable. We have gotten 25 MPG plus on the highway, even hauling 6 people and belongings. We bought this one after having a 2003 Odyssey for 2 years. Everything still works like new on ours.

If Honda hadn't changed the styling on the new ones, we would be buying another. The newer style is just too ugly.

2005 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5L V6

Summary:

Great family car

Faults:

Made a weird noise at 40,000 miles.

Problem with window strips at 15,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is sporty for a minivan. It is a great car and would recommend it to anyone. After five years and 63,000 miles, it is starting to show wear (as expected).

2005 Honda Odyssey Touring

Summary:

Great car, but a horrible problem

Faults:

I have a 2005 Odyssey Touring.

At about 20K the passenger's sliding door would open and alarm. Dealer said clean the contacts and it fixed the problem for a while. Now after a few years of treating the alarm and opening with this maintenance, both sliding doors are alarming and opening while driving. The driver's side door also illuminates all the ceiling lighting and opens far enough to place my hand out the door. Turning off the dash switch cuts the alarm but does not keep the door from opening.

I am having trouble understanding how a door, which apparently is turned off by the dash switch, can open while I am driving. I also have always kept the child locks in lock position. The dealer tried to tell me that the locks were not engaged, baloney. He should learn to read the arrows before he opens his mouth.

Honda claims no notice from dealers about this problem. I contacted them and got a case number. They said that if I get the problem figured out, to call them and report how it was fixed it. Everyone with this problem should call and get a case number as they told me I was the only one reported. Hard to believe.

I have 80k on my car and the dealer's excuse is there is no computer error being shown. I have the extended warranty so they should fix it. I need help before my kids fly out of my car!!

2005 Honda Odyssey LX 2.5

Summary:

Lemon

Faults:

Windshield air noise.

Grinding brake noise.

Failed steering pump.

Few times was hard to start the engine.

General Comments:

When this minivan was purchased, we were annoyed with air whistling noise. The dealer replaced winshield seal.

From the beggining, brakes were making grinding noise. We had to wait several months for new brake pads to come out that did not make the noise. Brake pads were replaced in 4 months by dealer (free of charge)

Within first year, steering wheel pump started to make noise. Dealer replaced the pump free of charge.

Today as of April 18, 2008, when the weather got warm, my wife could not start the engine. The battery was good, starter turned, but engine could not start right a way. After few tries, I finally started it. Dealer says it might be because of some fuel was left inside of cylinders after short trip, which does not make sense to me. If after each short trip I will have hard time starting the engine, what kind of vehicle is it?

2005 Honda Odyssey

Faults:

Like many others, I had the AC suddenly cut out on me in the over 100 degree Alabama weather. I too was also told that a rock hit the condenser, and that Honda would absolutely not cover it under warranty. I think that a manufacturer defect like not protecting the condenser should be covered, and that with an over 30,000 car and an expensive extended warranty, Honda is making excuses and needs to hear from their unsatisfied customers.
