2000 Honda Passport EX 3.2L V6
Summary:
The Reason Honda Started Making The Pilot
Faults:
Since it was new car it would use up 1 1/8 quarts of oil in 3000 miles. Not because of a leak or obvious burning of oil. Service techs say it is normal.
Every 40,000 miles the lower intake gasket blows. I am now on my third one.
In cold weather engine will stall for no apparent reason. It has done this since it was new. Service tech cannot find problem because there is no error code recorded in the computer.
Have had to replace two very expensive altenators. Between $400 & $700. Again, I am on my third one.
Poor quality brake rotors need replacing every time the brakes are changed. A very costly and time consuming process as the front hubs have to be completely dismantled and pressed back together again just to replace the front two rotors.
Car squeaks every time it hits a small crack or bump in the road. It is something with the suspension and have been told there is nothing they can do about it.
General Comments:
Should have bought a real Honda. Not something that was thrown together out of a GM & Isuzu parts bin.
Someone has mentioned that to get good service you need to go to an Isuzu dealer. Has anyone seen one of these in the last two years? I haven't.
Car handles great off road if you can get past the annoying squeaking noise from the suspension.
Parts for this car are rather expensive and seem to need to be replaced often. You would think for something that is mostly GM parts that parts would be a little less expensive.
If I hadn't spent all my money fixing this piece of junk I would buy A real Honda. What a money pit this car has been.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have a 1997 Honda Passport EX 2WD, 5 speed manual transmission, I have been the only owner of this car since I bought it new. The only thing I have had trouble with until recently was the transmission clutch, two times at $1000 a pop. The fan clutch which was pretty cheap and easy enough for me to change three times, a couple of batteries, and shocks. I can't complain too much because it was reliable for a long time, but recently at almost 160,000 miles, the engine started misfiring, the O2 sensors are out, but I can't determine which of the 4 are out and they are about $50 a piece. So for a year it has been sitting in a parking lot because I'm afraid to put any more money into it. The A/C has been out for about 5 years now, and it has always burned oil. I got an offer from Car-max to purchase it for $500, I laughed because the stereo in it was worth half that, so I took it out and put the factory radio back in it. Never had an alternator problem like I read a lot about. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do with it?

Just curious, but if anyone reads these, please reply and give an answer... but to the people who are having to replace alternators frequently... do you have an after market sound system? That could be a cause of it...
