1989 Honda Prelude Si 2.0

Summary:

Very sporty, looks good, it's a keeper

Faults:

I've only had the car for a week, and I noticed that the AC blows very cold, then for few minutes blows warm, then cold again. I plan to have it checked out.

Other than this, nothing else has yet to go wrong.

General Comments:

I've always liked the Prelude up to model year 1991.

I was looking for a commuter car, and was eye balling this one for about two weeks.

Has high mileage 209778, but man this car still has a lot of power, and runs smooth on the open highway.

I agree with other reviewers regarding the manual transmission, once you get up to 70mph the car sounds like a blow dryer, because of the short gear ratio.

I thought the gas mileage would be better, but I've been running the AC every time I drive it, so it takes away from my good gas mileage, especially in stop n go traffic.

Honda should have never discontinued the 'Lude.

1989 Honda Prelude 2.0 Si 4ws 2.0

Summary:

Very nice car

Faults:

Spark plug burnt out.

Alternator belt went loose.

Power steering went out before I bought it, so the pump was removed.

General Comments:

Awesome car - it's got more power than a lot of people give them credit for. It's not exactly a Camaro or a Mustang, but the weight of the car really adds to the power. It's really easy to gain some decent horsepower too - I've put 100 dollars into it and I gained about 40hp.

Very reliable - it starts right up even in -10f degree winters.

What did you do to gain 40 hp with only 100 dollars?? just curious.

1989 Honda Prelude Si 2.0

Summary:

It looks like there are screws missing, but its beuitiful!

Faults:

This car has been through a lot. I mean the body looks really bad.

The trunk doesn't close, and it takes a few tries to get the passenger light to actually pop open.

But this car runs great. It'll give a good little scratch in second, no problem!

General Comments:

I bought the car in Texas and drove it to North Carolina. I think I was in Georgia when a really nice red Saturn started MESSING with me (you know what I'm talking about). Anyway I was trying to make good time so I was in fifth just cruising at about 80 when it happened. I slammed into fourth (at 80) and left him. I did this afew times because he wouldn't give it up.

Its quick, reliable and drives just wonderful. I thought I would write my review about high speed performance for the curios type.

It's a nice car

Faults:

I think my car has a transmission problem. evertime I accelerate the car will give a kick when shifting gears. Is there a problem or are they all like that? Some info on this would be appreciated.

Can you describe it in some detail? I assume it's an automatic. Does the engine rev too high before it shifts, or does it feel like the transmission slips and suddenly catches? Is it all the time or only under heavy acceleration, like pedal to the floor? Is it all gears, or only the top gear? Any problem with reverse? Have you checked the transmission fluid level, or ever changed the fluid and filter? You can't check it cold, the engine has to be warmed up; then you shift through all the gears, reverse through drive, and leave it idling in neutral. Pull out the dipstick (not engine oil, which is different from the transmission dispstick) and check the fluid level. It should be between lines or crosshatch engraved on the dipstick. If it's low, or the dipstick isn't wet, that could be your problem. Also, if the fluid looks brownish or orangeish, that's another problem--it should be pink. These are all things you'll need to be able to answer before anybody can give you much help.

No manual should "kick" when the clutch in engaged in a higher gear unless (a) you already have your foot mashing the peddle, or (b) the engine winds up to very high RPM in neutral (which it shouldn't do).

I suggest laying off the gas for a half-second; it'll save years on the clutch.
